‘Steven Universe Future’ Brings New Episodes and Fan Predictions
Through five seasons and more than 150 episodes, fans have watched Steven Universe and his family bond, fight evil, and grow into being kinder humans and Gems. The paunchy little boy with no neck and a big heart stumbled a little bit during his journey, but warmed up to his powers, eventually becoming the friend and hero that Beach City needed.
He didn’t do it alone. The Gems, in all their crystal glory, helped Steven’s dad Greg raise Steven to become the young man fans saw in Steven Universe: The Movie. He traversed other realms, battled rogue Gems, and resolved basic arguments among his friends. Now he’s older, wiser, and has a neck. And it’s time for the series to wrap up. The epilogue promised by Steven Universe creator Rebecca Sugar is on its way, and for fans, it will be epic.
‘Steven Universe Future’ clips show peace, new Crystal Gem, trouble ahead
The countdown to the last leg of the series started in November when Cartoon Network released its first full trailer, “The Future is Here.” At first, it looks like everyone is settled and enjoying life, but then things flip. Pink Pearl doesn’t look too good and angry emotions have taken over several in the group, including Jasper and the normally chirpy and docile Steven. Is he about to go cray? We hope that doesn’t happen before he helps the new gem get acclimated and we also hope he doesn’t lose his obviously new driver’s license.
According to Cartoon Network’s description of this special run of Steven Universe, things will get hairy:
“In the next installment, Steven Universe Future, after saving the universe, Steven is still at it, tying up every loose end. But as he runs out of other people’s problems to solve, he’ll finally have to face his own. Haunted by the past and lost in the present, Steven begins manifesting new, uncontrollable powers that the Crystal Gems have never seen from him before. What does it all mean, and what does Steven want for his future?”
Sugar already alluded to the fact that the events in the movie will connect to this outing of Steven and the Gems’ story, so expect conflict and a little bit of heartbreak before a truly peaceful ending.
How many episodes will be in the epilogue series?
This is the end of the road, but instead of Steven Universe Future being marked as a “season six,” it’s an epilogue, a chef’s kiss, an end. Ten episodes make up this last installment and four of them will air back-to-back as part of the premiere on Dec. 7 at 8 p.m. EST.
After that, the six remaining episodes will air each week. Per Gizmodo, the first few episodes will focus on the Gems and their new blissful lives in Beach City, with each trying to blend in “Little Homeworld” and with the locals by hanging out and getting jobs. But something is lurking, and something needs healing.
What fans predict will occur in ‘Steven Universe Future’
There are a few ideas floating around for this phase of Steven Universe, and most have to do with something going off the deep end. There’s one theory that Pink Pearl will snap and betray the entire gang, and the worsening crack on her face is some sort of indicator of that. It’s been revealed that Steven will attempt to heal her scar, but will something go awry with that?
Then there’s Jasper. Fans think her allegiance to Pink Diamond will come into play and turn her into one of this series’ villains. But at the center of all the theories is Steven. Will his pink, gem half turn him into “Pink Steven” and go on an emotionless bender where he wreaks havoc?
Or as some fans pointed out, will his healing work done in Steven Universe: The Movie come undone, creating a new set of monsters like the giant cactus blob or the horned purple beast? The premiere is right around the corner, so get your own theories lined up and ready to be confirmed.
