‘Steven Universe’ Game and More Launching on New Apple Arcade

Apple is known for unveiling new products with fanfare and revelry, and its keynote event last week was no exception. By now, you’ve heard of Apple TV+ and discussions about the iPhone 11, but do you know about Apple Arcade?

One of the highlights of the special event was the chatter around Apple Arcade and the series of games that will be available for it. If you’re unfamiliar with this addition to the Apple family, we’re going to break down what it is and which games—like Steven Universe—you’ll be tempted to play on the platform.

What exactly is Apple Arcade?

It’s pure fun, that’s what. It’s the company’s gaming subscription service that will house more than 100 games that can be played on the app or offline. First announced in March of this year, the Apple Arcade will allow users to entertain themselves on an Apple mobile device, MAC, and Apple TV.

According to an Apple press release from this past spring, content will come from a variety of talented creators who are in-house and beyond:

“The service will feature games from Annapurna Interactive, Bossa Studios, Cartoon Network, Finji, Giant Squid, Klei Entertainment, Konami, LEGO, Mistwalker Corporation, SEGA, Snowman, ustwo games and dozens more.”

Customers of all ages in over 150 countries will be able to sign up and enjoy an ad-free gaming experience. And guess what? The service will exclude in-app purchases. No more worrying about your toddler buying $100 worth of gold bars!

Apple Arcade will launch this month with a modest fee

Excited gamers will only have to wait a few more days, because the service is set to launch on Sept. 19 for $4.99 per month with a free 30-day trial. Per Apple, its “Family Sharing” option enables up to six family members to share a single subscription.

Each game on Apple Arcade is unique to the platform, and users will be able to have fun playing alone or as part of a multi-player experience. The company plans to release new games each month.

Expect new and classic games on Apple Arcade

Who’s ready for some cool versions of “Pac-Man” and “Frogger?” According to The Verge, Apple enlisted legends to develop games for the service, and Konami is one of them. Look out for “Frogger in Toy Town” and Bandai Namco’s “PAC-MAN Party Royale.”

The latter is a battle game for four players at a time. Also in the catalog is “Patterned,” an interactive puzzle experience that invites players to color the pieces before arranging them.

Excited fans who love the Crystal Gems will want to check out “Steven Universe: Unleash the Light.” It’s described as “an original Cartoon Network game, co-written by Rebecca Sugar, where players pick their favorite characters, choose which Gems are in their party, unlock awesome new abilities and equip alternate costumes in the ultimate mobile role-playing game.”

What else is there? A street skating game, Sasquatch role-play, and a fairy adventure represent just a handful of Apple Arcade’s offerings, and Apple promises sophisticated graphics, superb sound effects, and endless fun, no matter your age or level of gaming talent.
