While many of us were initially convinced that he died in the lab explosion during the last episode of the season, his dead body was never shown.
There have since been a ton of fan theories surrounding the idea of Hopper still being alive and this photo might actually prove this theory to be true.
This new clue has fans certain Hopper is alive
Season 3 of Stranger Things really threw fans in a loop and many of us are still trying to piece together all of the things that took place.
Not only did we have to endure watching the Mind Flayer kill Billy after he tried to save Eleven and the rest of the kids, we also had to say goodbye to yet another iconic character, Chief Hopper.
At the end of Season 3, fans were left heartbroken after the energy machine exploded while closing the Upside Down and Hopper was in the direct line of the explosion.
Seeing as though his body was never found, many fans began speculating that Hopper probably escaped and will make his comeback next season.
While that is a possibility, others believe that Hopper is actually “The American” being held hostage by the Russians, which mean he’s actually alive but is locked away somewhere.
Although fan theories surrounding Hopper are still trickling in, this new theory has many of us certain that he is still alive and will pop back up during Season 4.
Earlier this month, a photo of Hopper’s car on the Stranger Things set in Georgia was posted to Reddit.
Though the picture could possibly mean that Hopper is alive, it could also simply be a prop that is being used for flashbacks.
At the end of Season 3, we watched as Hopper’s “death” had deep affect on El and the new season could possibly feature a few flashbacks of them together when he was alive.
David Harbour wouldn’t be surprised if Hopper is actually dead
While it is still unclear whether or not Hopper is alive, David Harbour, who plays the beloved character, is hopeful that he will return for Season 4.
During a recent appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Harbour shared that he believes Hopper is, in fact, “The American”.
“At the end there’s the post-credits scene– there’s this thing where it’s ‘the American,’ you know? And I was like, ‘Oh, clearly I’m the American. And then I haven’t gotten many phone calls,” he said.
He also admitted that he wouldn’t be surprised if Hopper was actually dead.
“Well, here’s the thing. I always knew that Hopper had to make a sacrifice. Like, he’s a jerk, and he also needs to pay for that in some way… so I thought he’d make the sacrifice,” Harbour expressed.
Just like Harbour, fans are still in the dark on what is set to take place in Season 4.
So, we’ll just have to see what the Duffer brothers has in store for us next and what until the new season to see exactly if Hopper is actually dead or not.
