‘Supergirl’/’The Flash’ Crossover: What We Know So Far

Ever since the SupergirlFlash crossover was confirmed last month, fans have been eagerly waiting to hear more about the upcoming team-up. With the episode now set to air in just a few weeks, CBS has finally released new details about what fans can expect to see from The Flash’s visit to National City. Here’s everything we know about the forthcoming crossover, appropriately entitled “World’s Finest.”

1. It will feature two major villains

Rumors that the Silver Banshee would serve as an antagonist in the upcoming crossover began circulating after the actress was spotted in costume in a leaked set photo. Now, it’s official. According to CBS, Silver Banshee, who first appeared on the show as Kara’s uber-competitive co-worker Siobhan (played by Italia Ricci), will battle against Kara (Melissa Benoist) and The Flash (Grant Gustin) in the forthcoming episode.

And she’s not the only one. The Silver Banshee will team up with Kara’s former nemesis Livewire (Brit Morgan). Though the specifics of their evil plan have not been revealed, the photo stills from the upcoming episode suggest that Cat (Calista Flockhart) will once again find herself in the middle of the drama.

2. The heroes will strike a deal to help each other

As CBS’s synopsis for “World’s Finest” reveals, both heroes will have to rely on each other for help in the upcoming episode. Left lost and confused after landing in Supergirl’s world, The Flash needs to find a way back home. Kara agrees to help him, in exchange for the speedster’s assistance taking on the bad guys.

The official descriptions reads: “Kara gains a new ally when the lightning-fast superhero The Flash suddenly appears from an alternate universe and helps Kara battle Siobhan, aka Silver Banshee, and Livewire in exchange for her help in finding a way to return him home.”

3. It pays homage to a classic DC comic book issue

In addition to releasing new plot details for the crossover, CBS also released new key art for the episode. As fans may notice, the poster pays tribute to DC’s original cover for Superman #199 from August 1967 — the issue that marked the first time that Superman and the Flash ever raced against each other.

It’s a moment that we’ll see recreated in the crossover, just as the art suggests. Producer Andrew Kreisberg has already confirmed that comic fans will see the race they’ve been waiting for between The Flash and Supergirl. “We do have a footrace, which is one of my favorite moments in this episode,” Kreisberg told EW. “It’s close.”

Update 3/18/16: CBS has released a teaser for this scene, seen below:

4. It will combine elements of both series

While The Flash will be appearing on Supergirl solo, it’s safe to say that the crossover will still be a good mix of both shows, as the two series share the same team of producers. The story for this particular episode was created by producer Greg Berlanti, with the teleplay penned by Kreisberg and Michael Grassi. Nick Gomez, who previously directed installments of Daredevil and Chicago P.D., helmed the episode.

5. What this means for the DC Universe

The Flash exists in the Arrowverse (the continuity that encompasses all of the CW’s Arrow spinoffs, like The Flash and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow), but the show has previously hinted at a larger DC Comics multiverse that will allow for other crossover possibilities between various Earths. Since the speedster can travel through time and space, it makes sense that he’s the one to appear in another DC Comic-based worlds like Supergirl‘s — even if that world happens to be on another network.

Whether Supergirl will ever find a way to return the favor remains to be seen, but Deadline reports that there are no plans for her to appear on the CW series as of now.

The SupergirlFlash crossover airs on March 28 at 8 p.m. on CBS.
