Surprising Things You Probably Didn’t Know About Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner’s Relationship
Because of who her father is, coupled with her own appearances on The Apprentice, Ivanka Trump is no stranger to the spotlight. However, after Donald Trump was elected president in January 2016, his oldest daughter and her real-estate developer husband, Jared Kushner, were put under a microscope like never before.
Now, more than ever, people have a curiosity about the couple’s marriage that didn’t necessarily exist before, and some details regarding their relationship are pretty surprising. Here’s a list of a few things you probably didn’t know about the pair, including the claim about the first daughter’s love life that will leave you speechless (page 5).
The couple broke up before Trump converted to Judaism
Kushner’s religion is something that is very important to him and his family. Therefore his parents would not allow the couple to marry unless Trump converted to Judaism. This became an issue in their relationship and something they broke up over in 2008. However, they got back together after Trump did convert and were married in 2009.
Trump previously told Vogue that she feels her and her husband’s faith has made their family so strong. “I really find that with Judaism, it creates an amazing blueprint for family connectivity,” she said when discussing their observance of the Sabbath. “From Friday to Saturday we don’t do anything but hang out with one another. It’s an amazing thing when you’re so connected … to really sign off … pure family.”
Next: Their date nights are very unusual.
Trump and Kushner are all business, no romance
The one thing that may be missing in the pair’s relationship is a little bit of romance and that’s because they are both so focused on work. Trump revealed to Vogue what their date nights usually entail.
So, my husband’s idea of a date night somehow always involves me looking at one of his development sites. So we went to this great restaurant in Brooklyn … and all of a sudden I find myself standing on the roof of the Whole Foods in Gowanus in the pouring rain. At midnight. And he’s showing me this giant site he just bought. I’m like, “Huh. So this is why you chose that restaurant.”
Next: They don’t hang out with anyone their own age.
They don’t have any friends their age
Trump has never described herself as a big partier. In fact, she sees herself as the opposite. “Partying was never a major part of my life,” she said when speaking to Purple. “I don’t drink a lot. I’ve always preferred quiet settings, like dinners.”
The same is true for Kushner who, according to Esquire, has always been quiet and doesn’t hang around with anyone his own age. At his 35th birthday party, those in attendance noted that the median age was “somewhere near 70.”
Next: This is something Trump’s father and Melania swear they don’t have.
The couple has lots of hired help
Trump does not take after her father when it comes to having a lot of hired help. The president and first lady have said in the past that they don’t like to hire nannies and haven’t had one for their son, Barron, because “if you have too much help, you don’t get to know your children.”
But it’s seems like a different story for Trump and Kushner. They have three children and some trusted nannies to help care for them. Trump named two of those women in her book when she thanked “Liza and Xixi, who are helping me raise my own children.”
The couple also employs a full staff, including housekeepers who keep things spotless when the pair are busy working.
Next: You won’t believe what famous star said he used to date Trump.
Trump dated these celebrities before she met Kushner
Before Trump met her future husband, she was romantically linked to some very famous men. AOL reported that the first daughter used to date That ’70s Show actor Topher Grace in 2006. Prior to Grace, she reportedly dated Lance Armstrong. However, Trump has denied that she and the cyclist were anything more than friends.
One of the wildest claims made about her love life, though, is that she once dated Quincy Jones. In February 2018, the music producer gave a candid interview in which he said that he “used to date Ivanka” several years ago. The time Jones claimed that occurred would have put him at 72 and Trump at 24.
Next: Trump and Kushner are very alike in this aspect.
They have very similar backgrounds
Like Trump’s father, Kushner’s dad is also a businessman and real-estate billionaire, who’s been involved in a multitude of scandals. Not too many people know that Charles Kushner actually served time in prison for crimes that included illegal campaign contributions, tax evasion, and trying to blackmail his own sister.
Despite this though his son, like Trump, learned the ins and outs of the family business at a young age and both later obtained leadership roles within their fathers’ companies.
Next: They love doing this because it’s how they met.
They like to play matchmaker
Trump and Kushner met after they were set up on lunch date by a mutual friend, and now, they love setting other people up. In 2017, during an interview with Fox News, Trump revealed that she and her husband are pretty successful matchmakers.
“People don’t realize it’s our hidden skill,” she said. “We see how our friends’ strengths, passions, and personalities align, and we love helping the people we care about find happiness.”
So just how good are they? Well, their matchmaking skills have so far resulted in “seven marriages [and] zero divorces.” We must admit that’s quite an impressive record.
