Tamron Hall Responds to Reports That She Blew Up When Kelly Clarkson’s Show Was Renewed Before Hers

Television personality Tamron Hall kicked off her highly anticipated talk show in the fall on the same day as The Voice’s Kelly Clarkson. In her show’s premiere, Hall rejected any suggestions of the two battling each other over ratings. Yet recent reports have surfaced that the former Today Show co-host did not take too kindly to Clarkson’s show getting a quick renewal while hers is still waiting.

Starting off on the right foot

When Hall’s show launched on September 9, she made a point of congratulating Clarkson on her new program which premiered the same day. Hall also took a strong stance against any rumors of the two being at odds with each other. “I will not be in a position where you pit me against another woman,” she said to her studio audience.

Hall told Good Housekeeping that any reports of bad blood between the two were simply false. “There’s not a head to head. Anyone who would write, ‘oh there’s a battle’ is simply looking for a headline,” she said, while giving a shout out to her fellow talk show host. “Kelly Clarkson will have a phenomenal show and I’m not just saying that, I’m saying that because I’m a fan of hers on American Idol, and she’s a fun-loving person. Her show is going to be different from mine, but we’re still talking,” Hall said.

Alleged tension

The Daily Mail recently reported on allegations of growing tensions on the set of Tamron Hall due to the show’s ratings being lower than The Kelly Clarkson Show, being exacerbated by Clarkson’s early second season renewal. “We would have gotten an early renewal too if you were all doing a better job,” Hall allegedly yelled at her staff, according to the story in the Daily Mail.

“She wasn’t mad per se that Kelly’s show got picked up for a second season, but she’s apparently frustrated with the direction of her show and afraid of it becoming a failure after walking away from her job at NBC and banking everything on this opportunity working,” an ABC insider told the Daily Mail.”She’s been on edge since the show launched, but each week she’s become more and more difficult to work with.”

The news outlet reported that Disney went to great lengths to make Hall’s show a success, recruiting veteran producer Bill Geddie out of retirement as well as producers from The View and The Wendy Williams Show to join the Tamron Hall team. Despite the rumors of discord, the Daily Mail stated that Hall’s show is the highest debut of any other talk show, other than Clarkson’s, in the past five years.

Hall claps back

The allegations against Hall prompted her to make a statement to Daily Mail, which she also posted on her Instagram account. “It’s ironic that a few days after I said on my show that I’ve seen ‘men storm out of rooms, puffing and huffing, and no one says anything’ while ‘women [who] speak up [are viewed] as difficult’ that someone would leak a false story about me being difficult,'” she said.

Hall went on to give props to Clarkson, who is also from Hall’s home state of Texas, and insisted that this is standard fodder from the rumor mill pitting women against each other. “As I said live on my show while defending Gabrielle Union, women are perceived as ‘difficult’ when they speak up. I have never once complained about Kelly’s renewal – I am so happy for my fellow Texan. I’m excited about my show and I can’t wait for season 2!” Hall said.

Time will tell if Hall’s talk show will be picked up for a second season. For now, the talk show host is clearly hoping to quell any reports that are, in her opinion, idle gossip.
