An Update on Tati Westbrook, James Charles, and Jeffree Star About One Year After ‘Dramageddon’

It’s hard to believe that the Tati Westbrook and James Charles drama happened a year ago. That’s, primarily, because of how busy the influencers involved have been since then. Here’s what each of these makeup artists are up to, about a year since “dramageddon.”

Tati Westbrook first posted the ‘Bye Sister’ YouTube video

It was the YouTube video heard ‘round the world. The makeup community changed forever after Tati Westbrook published a video titled “Bye Sister.” In it, the makeup artist discussed her relationship with James Charles and a few of the reasons why she didn’t want to associate with him.

It resulted in dozens of replies from YouTubers, either coming forward to defend James Charles or citing incidents of similar “predatory” behavior. Afterward, Tati Westbrook published a second video and tweet, saying that she stands by what she said, but maybe she didn’t express it the right way.

“I have been in communication with James Charles…and we believe that it is in the best interest of our community, our viewers and our own mental health to put this matter to a rest,” Tati Westbrook wrote in a letter to fans. “Although I do not regret raising my concerns, I completely regret the way I went about saying them. I could have and should have found a better way.”

That was back in May 2019. Now, Tati Westbrook is focused on makeup and her cosmetics products. The influencer recently restocked/created the Tati Beauty Textured Neutrals Palette has Restocked and The Blendiful. She continues to post reviews and tutorials on YouTube, each earning thousands of views.

James Charles responded with a few videos of his own

As a response to Tati Westbrook’s video, James Charles posted two clips consecutively. One of which he apologized, the other, titled “No More Lies,” shared his side of the story. That last video earned over 50 million views and, pretty much, was the last time that the makeup artist commented on the situation.

Since then, James Charles expressed his interest to move on. He’s gone on to earn back a number of his followers and even launch the “YouTube Original” series, Instant Influencer, featuring public figures like Trixie Mattel and Paris Hilton. Additionally, he continues to sell the James Charles x Morphe palette.

Jeffree Star and Shane Dawson created the Conspiracy Palette and Collection

Last year, this makeup artist shared his two cents regarding the whole Tati Westbrook and James Charles drama. After that, he debuted another video, saying that he shouldn’t have said anything to begin with. Inserting himself into the drama is the “old Jeffree,” he explained during one of Shane Dawson’s videos, and he doesn’t want to revert back to that.

Jeffree Star has, presumably, moved past the incident. In March 2020, the YouTuber and makeup artist responded to one of James Charles’ videos. He wrote on Twitter, “Umm you look SO gorgeous!!! James killed it per usual.”

Jeffree Star also had a pretty busy year during 2019 and even early 2020. In conjunction with Shane Dawson, the makeup artist released the Conspiracy Collection, which sold out in a matter of hours, crashing the Jeffree Star Cosmetics website. Jeffree Star also purchased a new house and got two more Pomeranians named Dominatrix and Dessert.
