Taylor Swift has a lot to celebrate. Just last week, the famous songstress released her highly-anticipated, seventh studio album Lover. Though it’s only been eight days, the album is already the highest-selling record in the U.S. for all of 2019. Furthermore, the singer has already shattered other records, both nationally and internationally. In the U.K., Swift is topping the charts with her fourth number one album. Meanwhile in China, Swift broke a record for being the first international artist to surpass 1 million streams, downloads, and sales.
Swift’s newest album
A master of PR and marketing, Swift began dropping hints about Lover long before the album was even announced. Swifties watched in delight as the 29-year-old songstress allowed her Reputation era to fade gracefully into the background in favor of something lighter. Fans watched in awe as butterflies replaced snakes, and a softer, more romantic, pallet overtook Swift’s Instagram feed.
18 original songs
With a whopping 18 songs on the album, Lover is Swift’s lengthiest album to date. Known for her deeply personal songwriting skills, the “You Belong With Me” singer recently confessed that this album is full of a myriad of emotions, feelings, and ideas. “I was compiling ideas for a very long time. When I started writing, I couldn’t stop,” Swift shared in a recent interview with Vogue.
A new age
Though Swift has been in the spotlight for over half her life now, in a lot of ways she feels like Lover is a fresh start. For this album, Swift played with a universal idea and broke it down in all its idiosyncrasies. “There are so many ways in which this album feels like a new beginning. This album is really a love letter to love, in all of its maddening, passionate, exciting, enchanting, horrific, tragic, wonderful glory,” the “Cruel Summer” singer admitted.
After hearing Swift talk about the album for months, fans were chomping at the bit to get their hands on Swift’s latest work of art. Taking to her Instagram page last Friday, Swift wrote a meaningful message to fans before announcing that her album was officially available. “This album is very much a celebration of love, in all its complexity, coziness, and chaos. It’s the first album of mine that I’ve ever owned, and I couldn’t be more proud. I’m so excited that Lover is out NOW,” the “Our Song” songstress shared.
And Swift was right to be excited. Not only are fans loving her albums, but critics are as well. Swift is again being championed for her great songwriting skills as well as her unique sound. In celebration of the album’s success, Swift recorded a sweet video for her fans and posted it to her Instagram story. In the video, Swift is incandescent with emotion and displaying deep gratitude.
One of the best weeks of her life
“I just have to say to you guys, thank you so much for one of the best weeks of my life. I can’t…I can’t thank you enough. Like, I couldn’t have imagined it going better, or being more fun, and getting to meet so many of you. And seeing all of the things that you were saying about Lover online was just like. It just..(gasp). I just love you guys. I’m really, really, really, lucky and I know it every, single, day. Thank you so much.”
