‘Teen Mom’: Fans Slammed Catelynn Lowell For Leaving Her Daughter Novalee at Home
Have you watched the latest episode of Teen Mom OG? If so, you probably remember the scene where Catelynn Lowell decided to go out, leaving her crying daughter, Novalee Baltierra, at home.
Even though Lowell left Novalee in good hands, fans were outraged by the scene. They quickly took to Twitter to call out the reality star for leaving her daughter at home while she was throwing a temper tantrum.
Why did Catelynn Lowell leave her daughter at home?
ICYMI, Lowell overall just wanted some personal time, so she decided to hit the spa. The reality star has occasionally received treatment for anxiety and depression, and it seems like she was simply trying to decompress by visiting the resort. Plus, it was her birthday!
But critics were unrelenting, writing that she takes too much time for herself.
“I’m so tired of Catelynn constantly talking about she needs to rest, take it easy so she won’t stress herself out and get postpartum depression again,” one critic wrote. “You do nothing but take it easy! She uses her past depression as an excuse for everything! Enough!”
Another added, “Aww Nova thinks she not coming back because she leaves so many times.”
Catelynn Lowell defended her decision
In regards to the episode that aired on June 24, Lowell declared that fans were blowing it out of proportion. She tweeted that Novalee wasn’t upset for very long and that she very rarely leaves her daughter at home anyways.
“Nova was FINE two minutes after I left!” the television personality tweeted. “That was my first time by myself in MONTHS!!! And it was my birthday! If you are a parent you know that sometimes u need me time!”
Tyler Baltierra also chimed in
There were a bunch of angry responses to the episode, but once fans started accusing Novalee of having abandonment and anxiety issues, her father Tyler Baltierra quickly hopped online and shut them down.
“Wait…so a kid throws a fit nowadays & we’re calling it ‘abandonment anxiety issues’!? I must have not received that memo, but thank you to all of the social media child therapists for this new diagnosis,” the 27-year-old tweeted.
Catelynn Lowell and Tyler Baltierra are doing great
Fans of the show know that Lowell and Baltierra had issues that were arguably as fiery as Novalee’s temper tantrum. On the last season of the series, they experienced a rough patch so intense that they ultimately decided to live in separate homes.
For his part, Baltierra said he quickly started to miss his wife. And the separation made him realize that while they have some things to work on, they should stay together. “I feel like we’re always strong,” Lowell told E! News. “I think that we just go through bumps and it makes you stronger as a couple too, but yeah, we’re in a really good place.”
For her part, Lowell said people blew the separation out of proportion, noting that they still spent time together and knew almost from the beginning they didn’t really want to break up.
They even want more kids
After welcoming their second daughter, Vaeda, back in February, Lowell told Us Weekly that they would “love” to have a boy one day. “If we’re meant to just have girls, I guess that’s what we were meant to have! I’m not going to have like, six, or seven kids – no thank you. I feel like I’m already going gray with two!” she explained to the outlet.
She continued, “By the time we’re 30, we’re done. [Baltierra’s] getting fixed, that’s it. I already told him … And he’s OK with that! He’s like, ‘Yeah you’re right, you did carry all my kids and have to go through labor, so [I’ve] got no choice!’”
For now, Novalee at least has Vaeda to play with, so maybe she’ll be OK the next time her parents take some time for themselves.
