‘Teen Mom’ Kailyn Lowry’s Ex Jo Rivera Wants $1K a Month in Child Support

Love lost can be costly in more ways than one. Especially when you and your ex have a child together.

Teen Mom’s Kailyn Lowry is about to find that out the hard way on tonight’s episode of Teen Mom 2.

According to a clip of the show obtained by People, Lowry’s ex-boyfriend Jo Rivera is asking for over $1,000 a month in child support from the star.

“So, yesterday I was picking up Lincoln from school and I got a text from my attorney who says … let me read it to you, because my jaw hit the floor, honestly,” Lowry said to her friend in the clip.

“I should let you know Mr. Rivera thinks … he can get over $1,000 a month from you,” she read the text from her lawyer aloud. “He is requesting your financial information and is moving forward on this. You should probably schedule a time to see me ASAP. His new attorney is quite insistent on his client’s rights and your obligation to pay.”

What bothered Lowry was not so much the amount, but how the request was coming out of nowhere.

” So Jo filed for child support against me and wants over $1,000 a month,” she continued. “Never once did he mention to me that he was in any type of situation where he needed financial support or that he was even considering filing for child support.”

Apparently, Rivera had been paying Lowry child support for their son Isaac since he was a baby.

“I was getting child support since Isaac was maybe 8 months old,” she continued. “He was paying $475, which, okay let’s drop it, let’s just call it a wash. I even told him a while ago I would drop it, I just never got around to it. He was always the one to preach to me about talking things out.”

In response to the request for $1,000 a month, Lowry texted her ex asking him why he was asking for so much money despite the fact that they go 50/50 on things for their son.

She claims that he responded back calling her a hypocrite.

“I hope that Jo asks me for something so I can tell him, ‘Go f— off,'” the star continued. “Do not come here and act like you’re my friend and hang out for a couple of minutes, don’t hold my son, don’t do anything if you’re going to be sneaky and go behind my back.”

The Relationship

Lowry’s relationship with Rivera was rocky almost from the start. But when she realized she was pregnant, she decided to keep the baby despite being just 17.

“There was no way in hell I was getting an abortion again,” she said of finding out she was pregnant in her book Hustle & Heart.

“I didn’t care who said what about it,” she continued. “I chose to go through with my pregnancy, and I chose to keep the baby. I chose to graduate high school early and start a family with Jo. I chose to sign a contract with MTV, agreeing to appear on the docuseries that, it turned out, would follow the next several years of my life. Most significantly of all, I committed myself to the life of a teen mom.”

At the time, she moved in with Rivera and his family. When the baby finally came in January of 2010, she was already falling out of love with Rivera and felt that the relationship was ending.

“I wasn’t satisfied by the life we were sharing, the constant fights or my growing suspicion that he was cheating on me.”

After the couple broke up, she continued living with her ex’s family until Rivera found out that the teen mom had begun dating someone new.

Since then, the two have gone their separate ways, only communicating to co-parent their son.
