Tessa Thompson Is Making History As Marvel’s First Queer Superhero

Tessa Thompson is definitely the actress we never knew we needed but we’re so happy to have.

The actress has shown the world that she is a force to be reckoned with and just recently revealed a huge milestone she is about to make in Marvel history.

Not only will Thompson’s Marvel character, Valkyrie, be the first female ever to become a king, she will also the first openly LGBTQ superhero in Marvel Cinematic Universe history.

Valkyrie will soon be on the search for her queen

In today’s age, movies are no longer following the gender norms that have been put forth in the past.

Male and female representation is not the same as how it has always been and many production companies are happy to be part of this ongoing change.

For the past few years, Marvel has made history with its record-breaking films and has just accomplished something even bigger.

This past weekend, actress Tessa Thompson revealed during San Diego Comic-Con that her character, Valkyrie, will not only be taking over as king of Asgard from Chris Hemsworth‘s Thor but will also be the first openly LGBTQ superhero in the Marvel franchise.

“First of all, as new King [of Asgard], she needs to find her queen, so that will be her first order of business. She has some ideas. Keep you posted,” Thompson revealed during a panel.

Hearing this was a huge deal for fans and many can’t wait to see the first-ever LGBTQ representation in a Marvel film.

Marvel’s president, Kevin Feige, later confirmed Tessa Thompson’s statement during a recent interview and shared that fans should definitely expect an openly queer relationship in the upcoming film.

“The answer is yes,” Feige told io9. “How that impacts the story remains to be seen with that level of representation you’ll see across our films, not in just Thor 4.

Fans can’t contain their excitement over Marvel’s female representation

Not only is it a huge deal that Marvel is bringing LGBTQ representation to an upcoming film, but it is also extremely epic that the franchise is showcasing more and more female empowerment in their films.

Captain Marvel, Black Widow, Valkyrie, and now Natalie Portman taking over as the first female Thor just goes to show that the female representation in Marvel films continues to grow.

Tessa Thompson’s announcement has shined a light on the long-overdue shift for LGBTQ representation as well as more female representation in the male-dominated Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Valkyrie’s storyline will soon show the world that inclusion can be evident even in a fictional universe and fans will finally have yet another superhero who they can relate to on a personal level.

This news might not seem like a big deal to some, but to others, having a queer actor playing a queer role is extremely significant.

With Tessa Thompson being openly bisexual, this just goes to show that our world has come a long way in accepting everyone’s identity.

Marvel can definitely be proud of the history it is about to make and though many of us already know how good of an actress Tessa Thompson is, we can’t wait to see her take on this role once again in a whole new light.
