The 1 Common Food ‘Pioneer Woman’ Ree Drummond Refuses to Eat or Serve, Says She ‘Promptly Spit Out Into a Napkin’

There’s something so comforting about watching The Pioneer Woman, Ree Drummond. Maybe it’s her down-to-earth personality, or how she makes you feel like she could be your best friend. Maybe it’s her simple yet mouthwatering recipes that are easy enough to copy at home. No matter the reason, the Oklahoma native has become a darling of the food world thanks to her classic recipes with a twist.

Drummond’s recipes are mostly hearty and tasty with a distinctive country feel. They’re the sort of food you’ll love to eat when it’s snowing outside and you want to warm your heart and belly at the same time. But there is one very common and beloved ingredient that The Pioneer Woman refuses to eat or serve at her table.

Ree Drummond absolutely despises bananas

Fans might be surprised to learn that Drummond is a bona fide banana hater. She first mentioned her aversion to this tasty fruit back in 2011 when sharing a recipe for Bananas Foster on her blog.

“In my entire forty-two years on this earth, I’ve never eaten a whole banana. I’ve had accidental bites here and there, half of which were promptly spit out into a napkin,” she explained in the post.

She still hates bananas all these years later

Even though some time has passed since then, Drummond is still just as anti-banana as ever.

While being interviewed by Fox for a Pillsbury Bake-Off contest, Drummond reaffirmed her extreme dislike for the tropical ingredient. When asked which ingredient she avoids, she said, “Bananas. That’s the only ingredient that’s off-limits and it’s because of me. I have a restaurant in my small town and there’s not a single banana in the joint anywhere.”

You might sometimes find bananas in Drummond’s kitchen

The Pioneer Woman makes no secret of hating the taste of bananas, which also happens to be America’s best-selling fruit. Apparently, she didn’t even like them when she was a baby.

Drummond claims she has a “genetic aversion” to them since her dad and one of her brothers also don’t like bananas. She used the words “Abhor, loathe, and recoil” to describe how she feels about them.

“I don’t like bananas. I like to drive that point home,” Drummond told Design and Living Magazine.

She’ll buy bananas to please her fans

However, she did make an exception to her strict banana avoidance rule while creating that Bananas Foster recipe.

While sharing the recipe on Facebook, she said, “I made something containing bananas today. For those of you who know me, you know that this is monumental. I’ll be posting the recipe–and whether or not I worked up the courage to try it–tomorrow! Love, The Lifelong Banana Hater.”

With or without bananas, everything Ree Drummond makes tastes amazing. And it shows an enormous amount of self-sacrifice for her to be willing to create a Bananas Foster recipe for fans even if she won’t like taste testing, which she called “a character-building experience.” It’s all just proof of why fans love The Pioneer Woman so much.

Even if she does hate one of the world’s sweetest fruits!
