The 1 Person James Corden Dreams of Having on ‘Carpool Karaoke’

James Corden has seemingly had every possible musical guest he has hoped for on Carpool Karaoke. The enormous fan-favorite segment from The Late Late Show with James Corden at first couldn’t get anyone to climb into Corden’s passenger seat, but once it got going, fans couldn’t get enough.

Find out which person has yet to join Corden in his Carpool Karaoke and whom he would consider the ultimate guest.

The most-viewed ‘Carpool Karaoke’

Almost every episode of this often-hilarious, always-melodious segment is a hit. The concept is extraordinarily intimate. For a huge celebrity to be in a contained environment for what is basically an improv situation can either be amazingly entertaining and revealing, or it could be a dud.

In the case of superstar singer Adele, it was spectacular. With over 200 million views, it seems some fans can’t get enough of riding around with the English singer with the incredible pipes.

Producer Ben Winston told Vulture in 2016, “She was having a great time, and James was having a great time. She’s a remarkable woman. She is the biggest star, I would say, in the world right now. But yet she’s the most down-to-earth, lovely girl you could meet. You sometimes wonder if success will change someone, but it wasn’t with her. She’s as wonderful as you would hope she would be.”

Corden’s favorite ‘Carpool’ guest

As Corden expressed, he doesn’t like picking favorites; it’s almost close to having to pick a favorite child. But clearly, the 41-year-old late show host does seem to lean towards one particular rider.

“I mean, it’s a bit like picking your children, you know what I mean?” he joked with ET in 2017. “But in terms of the one I’ve enjoyed doing the most, I think it was probably Bruno. Like, I really, I got a bit depressed afterward…”

“Because I’d been looking forward to it for so long and I’m such a fan. When we were done, I was like, ‘Oh. I’m not gonna get to do that again,’ you know, and so that was incredible.”

And here’s the guest Corden dreams of carpooling with

Corden has scored some amazing guests to belt tunes out with in his car, including Lady Gaga, Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato and Nick Jonas, the great Stevie Wonder, Elton John, Carrie Underwood, and Gwen Stefani (with friends George Clooney and Julia Roberts).

But there’s one guest that Corden feels would out-do all the rest, a guest that would give him the greatest happiness to have on Carpool Karaoke.

“Nobody thought that it would become the thing that it’s become,” Corden told The Daily Show‘s Trevor Noah in June 2019.

“It really is amazing,” Noah interjected. “It’s gone from just musicians to politicians, I mean Michelle Obama has done it – look at this list: Paul McCartney, you’ve had Tom Hanks, everyone, and it’s become this thing that is larger than life.”

Leave it to Trevor Noah to plant an idea in Corden’s head for the ultimate dream guest.

“The next step you’re doing, and that’s you and the Pope in the Pope Mobile.”

Corden seemed thrilled with the idea. “Oh man, that would be…I would absolutely love it, absolutely. If he’s watching, and I think he is … I would love nothing more than to do [Carpool Karaoke] with the Pope.”
