The 1 Thing Kate Upton’s Husband Justin Verlander Won’t Have to Give Up If He Wins Another World Series
The Houston Astros are playing in the World Series for the second time in three years. The team has a dominant offense and one of the best starting rotations in the majors. A key member of that pitching staff is Justin Verlander. He has been tapped to take the mound in Game 2 against the Washington Nationals and fans can expect to see his wife, Kate Upton, in the crowd cheering him on.
This year if the Astros win again, Verlander will have something to look forward to that he had to give up last time the team won it all.
They almost missed this the first time he played in the World Series
In August 2017, Verlander was traded from the Detroit Tigers to the Astros and helped his new team reach the World Series. That series against the Los Angeles Dodgers went to a Game 7, which was played on Nov. 1, just days before Verlander and Upton were set to say “I do” in Italy. So instead of flying out of the country, they were in L.A. for the final game while their friends and family were in Tuscany.
During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the couple spoke about missing part of their wedding festivities.
“Everybody is in Italy! Everyone is at the venue!” Upton explained. “We had an event that night and everyone’s texting us like, ‘Your wedding’s so pretty, wish you were here.’”
The Astros ended up winning the World Series and after the game, Upton and Verlander made the trip to Italy for their actual wedding.
“It’s such a crazy dream-come-true moment and two of those happened within a span of a couple days,” Verlander told People in 2018. “Two life-changing events happened in the same week; it just doesn’t happen like that too often.”
But being abroad right after the team won a championship meant that Verlander had to skip an important event back in the states.
What Verlander won’t have to give up if they win again this year
Due to their Nov. 4 wedding date and since he couldn’t be in both places at once, Verlander was unable to make the World Series victory parade in downtown Houston on Nov. 3.
Although he had a good excuse for skipping the celebration, some fans weren’t too happy that the ace pitcher wasn’t there and took to social media to express their opinions.
“So Verlander went to get married instead of being with his team today?! Not a good look man,” one Twitter user wrote.
“Justin Verlander played himself not being at the parade,” another tweeted.
The majority of fans though seemed to understand as did his teammate at the time, Dallas Keuchel, who gave the All-Star pitcher a shoutout during the rally.
With the Astros back in the World Series this year Verlander will likely clear his schedule of any prior engagements to attend a victory parade this time around should the team win it all again.
