The 1 Thoughtful Move Kate Middleton Often Does at Weddings to Not Upstage the Bride

Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge is one of the most famous women in the world. She gets photographed everywhere she goes and her every move is constantly talked about by fans and press reporters. Because of this, it seems Kate could easily upstage any bride whose wedding she attends.

However, Kate seems to have developed a trick to tone down the attention she gets at other people’s weddings. In fact, it feels like a rather thoughtful move to show respect and appreciation for the bride present.

Kate Middleton recycles outfits when she attends weddings

One aspect of Kate that many people seem to be obsessed with is her style. Ever since she married Prince William in 2011, Kate has become a bona fide fashion icon.

Since most brides would like all eyes on them and their wedding dress, Kate often re-wears outfits when she attends weddings. This way, her clothes would not be talked about as much and more attention could be paid to bride at hand.

For example, when Kate attended Prince Harry’s wedding to Meghan, Duchess of Sussex in 2018, she wore a cream Alexander McQueen coat dress that she had already donned three years earlier at her daughter’s christening.

A few months later, at the wedding of Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank, Kate showed up in a pink Alexander McQueen dress. She had worn a lighter version of the dress in 2017 at that year’s Trooping the Colour.

Kate’s practice of re-wearing outfits at weddings is so extreme that she has actually worn one champagne-colored coat to three weddings: Laura Parker Bowles and Harry Lopes’s wedding in 2006, Mel Nicholson and Oli Baker’s wedding in 2010, and Zara Phillips and Mike Tindall’s wedding in 2011. According to a website that tracks Kate’s outfits, she even wore the same dress to the wedding in 2006 and the one in 2011.

Kate’s clothes get a lot of admiration from fans, so it is not surprising that many people often flock to stores to buy something she has worn. Known as the “Kate effect,” clothing companies have noticed items that Kate wears typically get sold out soon afterwards.

Even during the recent lockdowns, Kate is still influencing fashion. Despite Kate mostly working from home with Zoom meetings, fans still pay attention to what she wears. According to the Daily Mail, her clothes continue to get sold out in stores, including a yellow Zara top she was seen wearing during one Zoom call.
