The 1 Time Blake Shelton Was a Real-Life Hero

Blake Shelton is known for being an award-winning country singer, a longtime host on The Voice, and a voice-over actor. However, it seems that Shelton’s resume should also include another title – hero.

Not many people can claim that they once did a heroic act to save the lives of strangers, though Shelton surely did that. Read on below to learn more about Shelton’s selfless action and what the people he saved had to say about him.

Back in 2015, Blake Shelton took a break from filming The Voice and went back to his home state of Oklahoma for a bit. There, he ran into a sticky situation. While he was spending time outdoors, Shelton came upon a group of young men who were stuck in a mud hole near a river.

One of the men, Bryar Blanton, shared with Entertainment Tonight: “Me and my buddies were checking out the river, when some of my buddies [accidentally] slid into a big mud hole and got stuck for about two hours. Me and Adrian started walking down the road [looking for help] and [that’s when] Blake and his dog, Betty, stopped and picked us up in his truck.”

Blanton recalled that he and his friend led Shelton back to the river where the other members of their group were still stranded.

“He tried to get them out with his truck,” Blanton said. “He couldn’t do it, so he said he would be back in 15 minutes with his tractor.”

Shelton eventually managed to save everyone. Afterward, he chatted with the young men while also taking pictures with them. Blanton said: “After he helped us out, he talked to us for a minute then said he had to go. He had his bow with him and he talked to us about hunting. He’s an all-around nice, caring guy.”

Blake Shelton told the young men to ‘stay out of jail’

A day after the incident, Blanton decided to connect with Shelton again to thank him for helping him and his friend. Taking to Twitter, Blanton wrote to Shelton: “Just wanna thank you for helping us yesterday man.”

Shelton responded to Blanton with something humorous.

“No problem,” he said. “Now you boys stay outta jail!!! Ha!!!”

Blake Shelton also rescued a man during a flood

In early 2015, Shelton also carried out another heroic act to help an Oklahoma man who was stranded in the middle of a flood caused by Tropical Storm Bill. The man in question, Roho Hartman, recalled that he was stuck in running water when a road turned into a river. Just then, a familiar face came by with his Dodge and a rope.

Hartman shared: “The guy said, ‘Are you ready?’ I thought that looks like Blake Shelton. That’s exactly what I thought. And I said, ‘Yeah! I’m ready!'”

After Shelton rescued Hartman from the dangerous situation, the country singer even ended up driving Hartman back to his home. The two of them reportedly “hit it off real good.” Hartman also said that Shelton was “a good fella.”

He’s done a lot of charity work as well

Perhaps Shelton’s acts of kindness are not that surprising for fans who know about how many charity work Shelton has done. Ever since he became popular, Shelton has used his influence to help make positive changes in the world.

For example, in 2016, he donated $600,000 to Oklahoma University’s Children Hospital.

Shelton also created the Blake Shelton Cancer Research Program at the hospital after his infant cousin went through cancer treatment there.

Additionally, he has helped raised millions of dollars for various charity organizations around the country.
