The 1 Way Fans of ‘The Voice’ Would Revamp the Show

The Voice now in its seventeenth season and growing strong — has managed to develop a devout fanbase that keeps coming back for more. While Adam Levine is no longer with the show, the playful banter has transferred to Kelly Clarkson and Blake Shelton. John Legend retains a much-needed calming presence. Gwen Stefani brings a little fun and excitement to the table as well, yet she will be swapped out for Nick Jonas come season 18.

Despite the revolving door of coaches (remember CeeLo Green and Christina Aguilera?), The Voice has become one of the most popular talent competition shows on the air; boasting a focus on vocal uniqueness over idol-type attributes (pun intended), viewers are attracted to the show’s formula.

While The Voice’s ratings remain impressive, fans of the show have grown a little tired of one of the program’s main assets. If given the opportunity, most fans would make one change to the show — one that would likely remove one of the largest complaints circling the coaches’ table.

How fans of ‘The Voice’ would change the audition process

An individual took to Reddit, expressing the way he would choose to alter The Voice, and in came a flood of support. The fan stated:

I would like to see a season where the judges cannot see/know if any other judge turned during Blind Auditions. A lot of times, I feel like they turn only because others have. It would be interesting to see who they would turn for if they didn’t have the others to rely on.

Gwen Stefani is one of many coaches who has been accused of relying on the others to make a decision; however, most of the coaches, on at least one occasion, have seemed hesitant until another professed interest.

Stefani, in particular, has been accused of lacking confidence; others have even argued that she comes off as disingenuous as a result of her selection tendencies. Changing this rule would change the entire vibe of The Voice, yet guarantee that coaches only follow their individual instincts. Other fans of The Voice, replying to the above comment, stated:

I think that’s a brilliant idea. Maybe set up a mechanism where they press a button quietly but the chair/s won’t actually turn until the song is done.

This is a genius idea

With multiple upvotes and written confirmations praising the idea for the show, it seems that fans of The Voice would like to know when a coach truly loves a contestant (and senses a possible match) as opposed to when they want to steal the contestant from another.

The show may be cut-throat, but if the auditions were blind in this department — if the coaches could not rely on their talented peers — would the results turn out the same? We will only know if the showrunners give it a shot. And, what do they have to lose? After 17 successful seasons (and an 18th on the way), this show seems unbreakable.
