The 3 Most Consequential Plot Rumors Circling ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of MadnessBenedict Cumberbatch’s second solo outing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe — is shaping up to be one of the most pivotal Phase 4 installments on the horizon. According to Marvel President Kevin Feige, “the multiverse is the next step in the evolution of the MCU and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is going to crack it open in ways that will have repercussions…”

Ever since Feige indicated the film’s prominence and relevance to the ever-expanding landscape, narrative leaks and rumors concerning Doctor Strange 2 began to take hold. However, some theories — backed by Marvel insiders with modest credibility — seem more likely than others. And some, if they turn out to be true, will hold far steeper consequences moving forward than others. So, let’s break down the most significant plot rumors surrounding the MCU.

1. ‘The Multiverse of Madness’ could introduce the MCU’s next major threat

Rumor has it that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness may be responsible for introducing the next major threat to endanger the Avengers (and other superhero teams set to form).

From the Fantastic Four’s Doctor Doom to Namor the Sub-Mariner, multiple names have surfaced concerning the villain(s) that may make an appearance in this movie, and while most eyes are on Nightmare as the main antagonist, there may be more than one threat in the upcoming installment.

Furthermore, with the multiverse about to “crack open” the MCU, the movie may set up the “time runs out” narrative, which leads to two parallel earths — one of which comes to be sacrificed in the comics. And while this threat is more worldly — untethered to a specific individual — it still fits within the major threat realm.

2. Are the Illuminati coming, followed by the ‘X-Men’ and ‘Fantastic Four?’

Marvel insider Mikey Sutton recently dropped a leak concerning The Illuminati, stating that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness may just pave the way for their entrance. Sutton explained that when Wanda fractures reality, a portal will open allowing extraterrestrial threats to enter earth.

Strange will then have to recruit a team of individuals to battle dangers the Avengers are unprepared to combat. According to Sutton, Professor X and Reed Richards of the Fantastic Four will be the first two to join. And, considering Patrick Stewart recently met with Kevin Feige concerning Professor X, this rumor does not seem like too far of a stretch. And, with Reed Richards and Professor X making an entrance, it would be logical to presume that their respective teams would begin to surface.

3. Miss America may appear in ‘Doctor Strange 2’

Screen Rant recently reported that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness may introduce Miss America.  The presumption came following an announcement that the movie was casting a teenage hispanic female lead. If Miss America joins the MCU, she will likely become one of the New Avengers that everyone keeps talking about. Meaning, Doctor Strange 2 could also play a role in bringing together the superhero team set to follow in the original Avengers’ footsteps. In short, Doctor Strange may have several missions to accomplish when it premieres.
