The last year has been very profitable for a few of Hollywood’s female movie stars, according to Forbes. The magazine released their annual list of the highest paid actresses in the world, ranking leading ladies from around the globe based on their income from June 1, 2014 to June 1, 2015.
Several notable names, like Julia Roberts, Angelina Jolie, and Reese Witherspoon, made the top 10, but which popular actresses commanded the biggest paychecks? Here’s a look at the five highest-paid actresses in the world in 2015:
5. Jennifer Aniston
Income: $16.5 million
Aniston is a frequent fixture on the annual Forbes list, mostly due to her significant earnings from her lucrative endorsement deals. The actress makes fewer movies than some of the other names on the ranking and the movies she does make aren’t necessarily big at the box office. Case in point? The two films she made over the scoring period, Cake and Horrible Bosses 2, grossed only a combined $108.6 million. Still, Aniston brings in major bucks, thanks to her contracts with Aveeno, SmartWater and Living Proof. Between her films and the endorsements, Aniston ended up earning a total of $16.5 million over the last year.
4. Bingbing Fan
Income: $21 million
Fan is the only non-American actress on this year’s globally inclusive list. The actress, who is probably best known to stateside audiences for her role in X-Men: Days of Future Past, earned $21 million over the past year. Fan owes her hefty paycheck to her big screen career (over the last year, she held roles in movies such as The White-Haired Witch of Lunar Kingdom), as well as profitable endorsements with companies like Chopard and L’Oreal.
3. Melissa McCarthy
Income: $23 million
Since breaking out with a turn in the ensemble comedy Bridesmaids, the comedic star has proven she’s more than capable of striking out on her own. Last year’s Tammy and this year’s Spy grossed a total of $335 million worldwide, helping McCarthy rake in $23 million – her largest annual paycheck to date. In addition to her big screen successes, the actress stars on CBS’s Mike & Molly. She is now also in the process of launching her own clothing line, which could factor into next year’s ranking.
2. Scarlett Johansson
Income: $35.5 million
Thanks to her first solo lead action role in the box office hit Lucy and her turn as the Black Widow in Marvel flicks like Avengers: Age of Ultron, Johansson has become a huge box office draw. Between her eight-figure salaries (she reportedly commanded $17.5 million for her upcoming flick Ghost in the Shell) and her endorsement deals with Sodasteam and Dolce & Gabbana, the actress has raked in a whopping $35.5 million over the course of the last year.
1. Jennifer Lawrence
Income: $52 million
Lawrence is earning more than any other actress in the world right now, thanks to her best-known role as Katniss Everdeen in the popular Hunger Games series. Following the franchise’s huge box office success, the star has negotiated a hefty payday from the film’s back end profits, in addition to her salary. She also has a lucrative Dior contract, bringing her total income for the last year to $52 million. Next up, she’ll reunite with director David O. Russell and frequent collaborator Bradley Cooper for the comedic drama, Joy.
