The Adorable Way Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie Broke Tradition to Announce Beatrice’s Engagement
Wedding bells are ringing! Princess Beatrice is getting married. The wedding between Beatrice and her husband-to-be Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi has been a long time coming as Beatrice’s younger sister, Princess Eugenie, got married last year.
It seems like the past year has been the year of engagements and marriages for the royal family as Meghan Markle and Princess Eugenie both recently had royal weddings of their own.
Princess Beatrice’s wedding announcement was posted in all of the usual ways but there was one break in tradition that has sent fans over the edge!
Princess Beatrice’s engagement
Princess Beatrice’s engagement announcement was posted on the Royal Family Instagram.
“The Duke and Duchess of York are delighted to announce the engagement of Princess Beatrice to Mr. Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi,” the post read.
“Her Royal Highness and Mr. Mapelli Mozzi became engaged in Italy earlier this month. The wedding will take place in 2020. This photograph was taken by Princess Eugenie in Italy.”
“Princess Beatrice and Mr. Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi said; ‘We are extremely happy to be able to share the news of our recent engagement. We are both so excited to be embarking on this life adventure together and can’t wait to be married.'”
Beatrice’s parents, the Duke and Duchess of York, also gave a statement regarding the impending nuptials on the royal family’s website, royal.uk.
“We are thrilled that Beatrice and Edoardo have got engaged, having watched their relationship develop with pride,” the statement reads. “We are the lucky parents of a wonderful daughter who has found her love and companion in a completely devoted friend and loyal young man. We send them every good wish for a wonderful family future.”
What did Princess Beatrice and Eugenie do that broke tradition?
If you follow the royal family, then you know that Princess Beatrice is typically very private. Unlike her rebel sister, she doesn’t even have an Instagram.
But today, to announce her engagement, she took a break from her social media hiatus to share the good news on her personal Twitter.
“I’m so excited to announce my engagement to Edo,” she tweeted.
Eugenie shared in the excitement, commenting on the royal family’s Instagram post.
“Beabea – wow!” she wrote. “I’m so happy for you my dearest big sissy and dear Edo. It’s been a long time coming and you two are meant to be. (camera emoji) by me!! “
Not to be outdone, Beatrice’s mother, Sarah Duchess of York, jumped in on the congratulations on Twitter.
“I know what a mother feels so I have tears of joy,” she wrote. “I am so proud of this sensational news. Andrew and I are just the luckiest people ever to have two great sons in law.”
Will Beatrice have to get the Queen’s permission to marry?
Often, members of the royal family have to get the Queen’s permission to marry. But that is not the case with Beatrice. The Princess is currently ninth in line for the throne.
Only the first six people in line to take the crown have to get permission from the Queen to marry. So though Beatrice was not legally bound to seek her grandmother’s permission, she probably told her about her plans to wed before she made the announcement.
