‘The Bachelor’ 2020 Air Date and First Promo Revealed

Bachelor Nation, prepare for liftoff. The Bachelor 2020 officially has an air date. After a rocky road in paradise this summer, which resulted in multiple breakups, fans of the franchise are more excited than ever to watch Peter Weber’s quest to find love. While most fans know that the show typically premieres in January, an exact air date was not revealed until very recently.

Peter Weber is cast as the lead

During the Bachelor in Paradise finale on September 12, 2019, the official announcement that Weber would be the lead of The Bachelor 2020 was made. Though fans had suspected Weber would be the franchise’s pick for months (thanks to Reality Steve) the Bachelor in Paradise finale was the first time that Weber was able to confirm said rumors. Weber, who had tried out for the show multiple times, confessed that he was absolutely thrilled to be given the opportunity to be the next bachelor. After falling in love with Hannah Brown, he was excited to be given another shot at love.

“It’s still hitting me right now, and I feel so grateful right now just to have this opportunity in front of me. I feel emotional right now. This is crazy. This is life-changing. I have truly, my entire life, looked forward to finding my girl, and that first person that I cannot wait to spend the rest of my life with. I have all the faith in the world that this can work for me, and I know it’s going to,” Weber said in a conversation with the franchise’s host, Chris Harrison, speaking excitedly about The Bachelor 2020.

A lack of diversity

Of course, not everyone was pleased about Weber being selected to lead the show. Many fans were outraged that Mike Johnson wasn’t chosen for The Bachelor 2020. As the franchise has a history of lack of diversity, this was their opportunity to pick the first African-American male lead in 17 years of filming, yet they elected not to. Because of this choice, many long-time fans threatened to boycott the show and expressed their outrage on social media.

“You have got to be kidding me?!?! Bachelor ABC had a chance to make history & FINALLY do the right thing and they blew it!! Peter is a nice guy but he’s a carbon copy of what we’ve already seen a million times. Mike Johnson, don’t worry better things are ahead for you!!!” one person wrote passionately on Twitter.

Weber suffers an injury

But, despite fan outrage, filming for The Bachelor 2020 went ahead as planned. However, things did hit a slight snag when Weber suffered an injury in Costa Rica. While playing golf, the 28-year-old managed to slip while getting into a golf cart. The slip caused him to break the cocktail glass he was holding and split his face open. The accident required emergency surgery as well as 22 stitches. Fortunately, Harrison reported that Weber was on the mend and that filming was continuing as scheduled.

The Bachelor 2020 air date and first promo

True to Harrison’s word, filming for the season is nearing its end and an official air date for the show has been announced. On November 14, 2019, the bachelor’s Instagram account released their first promo for the season. With the song “Feeling Good” (which references Weber’s career as a pilot) playing and a windmill in the background (referencing the multiple sexual encounters he had with Brown on their windmill fantasy suite date), the franchise announced that the official airdate of The Bachelor 2020 will be January 6, 2020.

“He’s not your run of the mill type of guy. The Bachelor premieres Monday, Jan 6!” the caption reads. We’re sure that fans are chomping at the bit for what is sure to be “The most dramatic season in Bachelor history!”
