‘The Bachelor’: Did an ABC Exec Hint That This Unsuspecting Contestant Might be the Next Bachelor?

We might be deep in Bachelor in Paradise land, but there is still one question that looms in everyone’s minds. Who is going to be the next Bachelor?

The Bachelor is typically not announced until at least midway through the season of Paradise, which means we have a couple more weeks to speculate.

Who is in the running to be the Bachelor?

There are a few guys who people have been campaigning to have as the Bachelor. Mike Johnson from Hannah Brown’s season of The Bachelorette is one of them.

Ever since he was eliminated, fans have been taking to social media to get Johnson chosen as the next Bachelor.

“I don’t think Tyler C. should be the next bachelor,” one fan tweeted. “He is clearly enjoying his fame & time after the show. If they are going to pick someone from Hannah’s season…. please let it be Peter or Mike!”

“If it’s not Mike, I seriously don’t know what you all are doing,” another person wrote. “It’s about freaking time is all I’m saying…no one wants to watch Peter the dud.”

Even Chris Harrison has said that Johnson is in the running.

“Of course he’s a contender [for Bachelor],” Harrison told People. “How could he not be a contender with that smile? He’s one of my favorite people we’ve ever had on the show. He’s a love of a man. I don’t know him that well, and I consider him a really good friend.”

“He’s just a sweet guy,” he continued. “He gives the best hugs, the best smiles, and the best advice. He’s just a really good man and yeah, of course, he’s a contender.”

And while Johnson would be the first African American Bachelor, he is so much more than that.

“He’s absolutely in contention to be The Bachelor. … He is just somebody that people really love,” Rob Mills, ABC’s Entertainment’s Senior Vice President of Alternative Series, Specials & Late-Night Programming told Entertainment Tonight. “He’s got a great story. We have somebody who has served our country, has really suffered through heartbreak. … You’ve got a billion-dollar smile and he looks great. He’s got a following; those are the reasons he’s in contention more than, ‘Oh, this is so great, we can check that off now.'”

Who is the unsuspecting candidate?

The reason that the Bachelor isn’t announced until the end of Paradise is that production wants to see how fans will react to what happens on the show before choosing. If there is a break out star on the beach, like in Nick Viall’s case, they want to be able to run with that.

“Number one is the cast for this season,” Mills said of why the Bachelor hasn’t been chosen yet. “This means nothing if the cast isn’t into who he is.”

“So there’s that, but also we don’t have to make a decision. We don’t start until September, and don’t forget Colton and Nick came from Bachelor in Paradise. So there’s still some people that can be, who knows?”

And they are even looking at a contestant who, given his track record, most fans would have thought could never be the Bachelor.

“Dean [Unglert] has that mustache now,” Mills continued. “Everyone thought he was too young, now maybe that is going to work out!”

A season with Unglert as the Bachelor? Could be interesting.
