‘The Bachelor’: How Bachelor Nation is Reacting to the Tragic Death of Tyler Gwozdz
Yesterday, Bachelor nation was rocked by news of the sudden death of former contestant Tyler Gwozdz. Gwozdz appeared briefly on Hannah Brown’s season of The Bachelorette before leaving the show unexpectedly.
Since then, he has remained relatively out of the spotlight and hasn’t competed in any other Bachelor related shows.
His death comes after he spent a week in the hospital in connection to a possible overdose. Gwozdz was only 29 when he died.
What happened to Gwozdz?
A 9-1-1 phone call revealed the harrowing moments that led to Gwozdz’s hospitalization. According to TMZ, the Boca Raton PD was called to come to a house on Jan. 13 to help Gwozdz. The woman who called told dispatchers that Gwozdz may have been suffering from a heroin overdose.
During the call, it appeared that the woman was trying to break into the bathroom that Gwozdz had locked himself in. She was eventually able to get into the restroom and was with him when the ambulance got to the house.
Gwozdz was then admitted to the hospital and stayed there for a week. Online records obtained by Entertainment Tonight later revealed that the former reality contestant died on Jan. 22.
Bachelor nation responds to Tyler Gwozdz’s untimely death
Though Gwozdz was only a part of the franchise for a short time, the show’s producers are not taking his death lightly.
“We are heartbroken to hear the tragic news of Tyler’s passing today. Our thoughts are with the Gwozdz family and his friends,” they said in a statement.
And fans are also reeling from the news.
“Tyler G from Hannah’s season has died,” one person tweeted. “Really horrible news. Sending my condolences to his friends and family.”
“Aww so sad!” another fan wrote. “Okay, this shouldn’t be the focus I know, but it’s crazy also because I put $5 in a little Bachelorette watch party/raffle on him to end up with Hannah that season! I was so sad when he went home. But I’m even more sad now :( Rest in peace Tyler G!”
Gwozdz’s time on ‘The Bachelorette’
Gwozdz was an early fan favorite after his one-on-one date with Brown. But in episode three, he left the show with no explanation. Rumors started circulating that Gwozdz was forced to leave because of things production found out about his past, including an incident where he allegedly spit on an ex-girlfriend.
Gwozdz emailed Refinery29 to explain the whole thing.
“Addressing totally unsubstantiated rumors posted to Reddit from an anonymous account seems imprudent,” he wrote. “I feel that even addressing them gives them some sort attention and fuel but I continue to have faith in my journey and in a purpose for everything that’s happened to me in my life. Above everything else, I am a son to my mother. She raised me to be better than these sort of baseless accusations. The rumors are so far out of the realm of my personality and values that it seems silly to waste time denying, but I suppose I will for the record. BUT I will be alright.”
“This was a decision that I came to with producers, and something that I’ve come to realize what is the best decision that could’ve been made,” he continued.
