‘The Bachelor’: Is There a Secret Rule About Kissing the Star on the Show?
The star of The Bachelor and The Bachelorette typically goes from 30 people down to just one suitor in the end. So that means the leads also end up getting intimate with multiple partners along the way. Although fans might view things like kissing the lead as a free for all, there actually might be rules to doing so. Here is everything you need to know about the secret rule about kissing on the show.
Wells Adams said you don’t kiss the lead in front of everyone else
Obviously, the star of The Bachelor and The Bachelorette kiss a lot of people throughout the season. But there is one secret rule that keeps things from getting awkward fast between the rest of the cast. Wells Adams who was on JoJo Fletcher’s season of The Bachelorette and a bartender on Bachelor in Paradise explained the rule.
“You’re not supposed to make out with the lead in front of everybody else. You’re going to make it weird for everybody else,” Wells Adams told Entertainment Tonight. “I remember that was a thing we didn’t do on JoJo [Fletcher’sBachelorette] season; you wouldn’t be blatantly making out in front of everybody else. That’s why it’s ‘Can I steal you’… to go talk or make out.”
He added that producers actually told him this during his season on the show. This role has been broken on Colton Underwood’s season of the show.
Adams noticed that Demi Burnett broke this rule
Demi Burnett has already been stirring the pot on Season 23 with her fellow contestants. Adams noticed that one thing that probably didn’t help her case is that she broke the kissing rule by kissing Underwood publicly.
“So right when [Demi kissed Colton], I was like, ‘Oh! She did it in front of a crowd!'” said Adams. “I can understand why everyone got upset. But everyone’s a villain!”
The Bachelor also has rules about sex
There are also rules around when and where contestants can have sex, which fans probably know by now. The fantasy suites tend to be the first time the star gets alone time overnight with the last remaining people. It’s heavily suggested that those are the times they would have sex.
Producers try to keep a close eye on the star and contestants to make sure nothing like that happens before fantasy suites. But the rule has been broken before.
“There is sex,” creator Mike Fleiss revealed on the Inside The Bachelor: The Secrets Behind the Rose 20/20 special. “There’s not a ton of it, I think the average is that the guy will end up having sex with about three women during the course of the show.”
Kaitlyn Bristowe openly addressed that she had sex with one of her suitors before the fantasy suite. The show decided to go straight to fantasy suites afterward instead of having her meet the families of the remaining men. Courtney Robertson also revealed in her book, I Didn’t Come Here to Make Friends that while skinny dipping with Ben Flajnik in the ocean, things went further than what the cameras showed. They later had their fantasy suite.
So there are rules around kissing and sex to seemingly make things less messy between the rest of the cast. But there have been times when the rules were broken.
