‘The Bachelor’: Matt James Responds to Rumors of Katie Thurston Being the Bachelorette

Though Matt James’ season of The Bachelor is not over, people are already trying to determine which of Matt’s women could be the next Bachelorette. The Bachelorette is usually a contestant from the previous Bachelor season, though that is not a hard and fast rule, as Clare Crawley and Tayshia Adams were both from older seasons when they took over the role of Bachelorette. If you’re an avid Bachelor fan, then you’ve probably already heard the rumors that Katie Thurston is going to take over the role next season. Here’s what Matt thinks about the whole thing.

Who is Katie Thurston on ‘The Bachelor’?

When Katie first stepped out of the limo, it was clear that she was there to do things on her own terms as she brought an adult toy with her.

“It wasn’t some agenda that I had coming on to the show,” she told Rachel Lindsay and Becca Kufrin on the Bachelor Happy Hour podcast. “It’s just who I am and who I’ve been this whole time. It wasn’t until after the fact that I realized how big of a deal it was — which excites me because I do believe it’s 2021 and women should be comfortable talking about their sexuality.

“I appreciate being comfortable being able to talk about it,” she continued. “Hopefully that means other women will soon start to open up a little bit because being sex-positive is important in a relationship, [the relationship you have with] yourself, in your self-care, and so many different things, especially in this [ongoing COVID-19] pandemic.”

After that, Katie went on to become a defender of the underdogs in the house. When Sarah Trott was being bullied by the majority of the women, Katie pulled her aside and apologized for everyone’s actions. Later, when Anna Redman accused Brittany Galvin of being an escort, Katie stepped in again to get Matt to shut down all of the toxicity in the house.

Why did Reality Steve pick Katie Thurston as the Bachelorette?

Because of her willingness to stand up for others and not back down, Katie became a fan favorite early on in the season. Over the weekend, Bachelor guru Reality Steve predicted that Katie would step into the lead role next season.

“(SPOILER): At the ‘Women Tell All’ taping this past Thursday, Katie Thurston was announced as the next ‘Bachelorette,’” Steve tweeted on Saturday. “Katie gets eliminated on Monday’s episode during her 1-on-1 with Matt.”

His prediction about Katie getting sent home on her 1-on-1 date was correct. After a lovely date pranking Tyler Cameron, Matt broke up with Katie during dinner, claiming that his relationships with other women had simply progressed further.

Since the show premiered, Matt has been hearing fans’ pleas for Katie to be the next Bachelorette, and he seems to be in support of it.

“You saw night one the type of woman that Katie is,” he told Entertainment Tonight. “She isn’t going to be afraid to be herself, and you have seen that with the way that she has handled her business.”

“Katie will have her time,” he said. “And having a woman like that in the house made the experience better for anybody.”
