‘The Bachelor’: Will Chris Harrison Be Cut From the Remaining Episodes?
Chris Harrison used to be the darling of The Bachelor franchise. Now, he is in the middle of what could be called a fall from grace. After he stood up for contestant Rachael Kirkconnell and excused her attendance at an antebellum plantation party, fans called for Harrison to be fired. As a result, Harrison decided to step away from the franchise for the time being. But, Matt James’ season is still currently airing. Will Harrison be cut from the rest of James’ season?
Chris Harrison’s interview upset fans
In an interview with Rachel Lindsay, Harrison tried to get people to give Kirkconnell the benefit of the doubt.
“I haven’t talked to Rachael about it,” he told Lindsay. “And this is, again, where we all need to have a little grace, a little understanding, a little compassion. Because I’ve seen some stuff online—again this judge-jury-executioner thing—where people are just tearing this girl’s life apart and diving into, like, her parents and her parents’ voting record. It’s unbelievably alarming to watch this. I haven’t heard Rachael speak on this yet. And until I actually hear this woman have a chance to speak, who am I to say any of this?”
Things went downhill from there as Harrison tried to argue that going to a racist party in 2018 wasn’t as bad as it would be now.
Chris Harrison apologizes and takes a hiatus
Immediately after the interview aired, fans began expressing outrage. Many called for Harrison to lose his job. He apologized via social media but it did very little to quiet the pleas for something to be done. Eventually, Harrison announced that he was taking a break from the show.
“To the Black community, to the BIPOC community: I am so sorry. My words were harmful,” he said in an Instagram post. “I am listening, and I truly apologize for my ignorance and any pain it caused you. I want to give my heartfelt thanks to the people from these communities who I’ve had enlightening conversations with over the past few days, and I am so grateful to those who have reached out to help me on my path to anti-racism.”
He then revealed that he would not be hosting the After the Final Rose special.
“This historic season of ‘The Bachelor’ should not be marred or overshadowed by my mistakes or diminished by my actions,” he continued. “To that end, I have consulted with Warner Bros. and ABC and will be stepping aside for a period of time and will not join for the After the Final Rose special.”
Will Chris Harrison be cut from Matt James’ season?
James’ season has already been fully filmed and edited. The After the Final Rose ceremony, is the only episode of the show that has yet to be filmed. So, while Harrison is currently on hiatus, he still may appear in the final episodes of James’ season. The end of a season is actually when Harrison historically has appeared the most as the leads typically need more guidance leading up to their final rose ceremonies. But given the circumstances, Harrison could be cut from the final episodes.
“There have been conversations about somehow cutting Chris Harrison out from some of the prerecorded episodes or at least some of the portions,” a source told Us Weekly. “If not, they may add a disclaimer at the top of the remaining episodes.”
