‘The Bachelorette’: Did Hannah B. Make The Right Decision Sending Cam Home For Trying to Get a Pity Rose?
The third episode of Hannah Brown’s season of The Bachelorette aired last night and it was not short on drama, just as Chris Harrison’s been promising us. Hannah B. continued to pleasantly surprise viewers by laying down the law and standing up for herself when necessary. And it was necessary a couple of times during last night’s episode. Once when Luke P. kept trying to monopolize Hannah B.’s time (she had to explain to him outright what the process of being The Bachelorette entails), and once when she felt Cam used his illness as a last-ditch effort to stay on the show.
Hannah B. has a longer history with Cam than she does with most of the other contestants, even if only by a bit. Hannah B. first met Cam during Colton Underwood’s live finale of The Bachelor. He performed a rap for her and she awarded him her first faux rose. At the time, she seemed to like his energy.
But since Hannah b.’s season has started, Cam’s been a pretty polarizing contestant. He’s not well liked at the mansion, as he hasn’t been shy about making it known that he feels he’s owed Hannah B.’s attention.
During the most recent episode, Cam tells Hannah B. that he had to quit his job to come on The Bachelorette. A real sacrifice, but sort of uncouth to bring up the week he suspects he’s going home. As if to suggest Since I quit my job to be here, you owe it to me to keep me around.
“I actually had to resign from my job, and I want you to know that I chose to be here for you, and I don’t want any of the guys to get in the way of that,” Cam told Hannah B.
Like Luke P., Cam also really tried to monopolize Hannah B.’s time this week. After Cam gets interrupted by Jonathan (in a super awkward confrontation), Cam interrupts Mike the moment he decides to open up to Hannah B. Cam walks into the room where Hannah B. and Mike are sitting and tells Hannah B. that he’ll be waiting for her. Then he doesn’t walk out and Mike has to shoo him away, only for Cam to come back in!
“Please, I haven’t had any time,” he begged.
Cam’s pity rose move
We see Cam tell the men that he has something “serious” to tell Hannah B., and he’d appreciate some time alone with her.
“There’s a strong likelihood it might be too much for her to handle and she sends me home before the rose ceremony,” he says.
Mike immediately calls him on it and says “BS, no. There’s no rules of engagement.”
Cam proceeds to tell Hannah B. about his illness.
“This is not an easy conversation for me to have,” he said, revealing that he almost had to have his leg amputated back in 2014. “The day before I got surgery, I got a call from my dad that my grandma had passed away. The most recent surgery that I had… hit me the hardest. I had a 10-month-old puppy at the time that I was super close to that I had to rehome.”
Mike tells Hannah B. that Cam only opened up to her today to try to get a pity rose. She believes him, confronts Cam, and eventually sends him packing.
Was it a good call? We think so. What Cam went through is terrible, but the timing of his bringing it up just wasn’t ideal. As Hannah B. said, that stuff should come up naturally, as two people grow closer, not as a final Hail Mary to stay on the show.
