‘The Bachelorette’: Is This Contestant the New ‘Bad Chad’? A Producer Thinks So

Any fan of The Bachelor franchise knows that The Bachelor and The Bachelorette are two very different beasts. Though their formats are the same, switching the sex of the lead completely changes the dynamics of the show. Whereas The Bachelor tends to be more dramatic, with tears and professions of love, the contestants on The Bachelorette lean more to the aggressive side.

Hannah Brown’s contestants have already begun to show signs of this. It’s only week two and some of the men are already starting to get possessive and stomping on one another’s toes.

But has one of the men taken it too far?

How are the men behaving this season?

There are always a few bad apples in any bunch of men competing for the Bachelorette’s heart. Unfortunately for Brown, she got a few more rotten guys than she bargained for.

“They’re very aggressive,” Rob Mills, ABC’s reality chief, told Variety of the men on Brown’s season. “You’ll see one guy manipulate time with Hannah. In the second week, there is a guy who doesn’t get a date so he shows up at a group date, which turns everyone off. And there is another guy, Luke P., who almost immediately falls head over heels with Hannah — this is a guy who is completely in love with Hannah, but also has some DNA of Chad [Johnson].”

Who is Chad Johnson?

If you have been watching The Bachelorette for a few seasons, then you probably remember Johnson, also known as “bad Chad.” He appeared on Jojo Fletcher’s season of the show and constantly got in fights with pretty much everyone in the house.

Fletcher, who didn’t see much of what was going on in the mansion, took a while to realize his true villain ways.

“Chad Johnson was one of my top guys, but I started hearing about drama,” she told People once the season wrapped. “The guys assumed Chad couldn’t hide that much crazy, but I really had no idea what was going on.”

“When I finally saw, it blew me away. Watching Chad is like one of those things where you want to look away from something but you can’t. The guys were much happier when he was gone.”

Who is the “bad Chad” of Brown’s season?

As the first two episodes have unfolded, it seems like Luke Parker has exhibited the most Johnson like characteristics.

“I would say he’s the one that everyone is going to be talking about,” Mills said of Parker. “He’s the one who is called a “psychopath” in the teaser. There are shades of Chad there. But I don’t want to call him a “villain,” because I don’t know that we necessarily have villains anymore — there are a lot more shades of gray. Whether he’s in love with Hannah or not, he believes he’s in love with her, almost from the very beginning. So he’s not necessarily a bad guy, but he is a controversial guy.”

But he isn’t the only one who has exhibited some questionable behaviors. Cam Ayala has also been pretty aggressive, crashing other people’s dates and calling Brown by his last name.

So, overall, it looks like there could be a number of “bad Chads” this season.
