Tayshia Adams replaced Clare Crawley on ‘The Bachelorette’

When it became clear that Crawley only had eyes for Moss, production began thinking of ways to keep the season going. Their answer? Bringing in Adams to replace Crawley. While speaking with Variety, ABC executive Rob Mills explained how Adams was chosen.

“We had met with her earlier [in consideration for The Bachelorette], and told her that this time, it’s going to be Clare, so since this was so unexpected, she came in and basically said, ‘You never know when things are going to shake up in your life.’ And we are so lucky that we ended up getting two all-time ‘Bachelorettes,'” Mills said about bringing in Adams.

While the contestants appeared on the show for Crawley, Mills does not think this resulted in any long-term problems for Adams.

“… you have to remember that we cast a lot of guys that weren’t necessarily announced for Clare because she was announced as The Bachelorette so late, so some of these guys would have been there for someone else that was chosen as the lead, anyway,” he said. “It all ended up working out incredibly well, even though it provided some hurdles at first.”

Tayshia Adams wishes she had a warning from Clare Crawley

Following her first appearance on The Bachelorette, Adams was interviewed by Jimmy Kimmel on Jimmy Kimmel Live! During the interview, Adams revealed she did not get the chance to speak with Crawley after arriving for filming, which she regrets.

“No, unfortunately, we didn’t speak,” Adams said. “I mean she had just gotten engaged, there’s a lot going on. I mean, I wish she would’ve so she could have like thrown me a bone and warned me about a guy or two.”

“Oh yeah, which guys did you need to be warned about?” Kimmel asked.

“Honestly, you gotta just tune in and watch, OK? It’s about to go down,” Adams replied.

“There were some that you would have liked to have had a heads up on?” Kimmel clarified.

“Yeah,” Adams said.

She did not know why she was asked to be on ‘The Bachelorette’

At the beginning of her interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Adams was asked how she found out she would be on this season of The Bachelorette. It turns out, Adams did not know what happened between Crawley and Moss.

“Did they tell you what happened?” Kimmel asked. “Did they tell you why you needed to step in?”

“No,” Adams said. “I mean, honestly, I got the phone call and it was more so just like ‘Hey, you’re the girl’ and I’m like ‘I got you’ and I was there.”

“So you didn’t know that something had gone awry?” Kimmel asked.

“I mean to be honest, I think everything was just kind of moving very quickly and no they didn’t share that news with me,” she said.
