Hannah Brown’s season of The Bachelorette has gotten off to a bit of a rocky start. She already had to send one guy home for having a girlfriend and according to the previews for this season, things don’t really go up from here.

But was Brown’s season doomed from the start?

From the moment that she was announced as the Bachelorette, Bachelor Nation made it very clear that they had reservations about the Alabama native.

What was the reaction to Brown as the Bachelorette?

Fans and former Bachelor contestants were open about how unsure they were as to whether Brown would make a good Bachelorette or not.

Former Bachelor and Bachelor in Paradise contestant, Corinne Olympios, recently spoke to Us Weekly about her disdain over ABC’s choice of Bachelorette.

“It’s just random. Like, why?” she told the outlet. “It’s, like, there’s nothing there that would have made me be like, ‘I need to see her again on TV. I need to see her find love.’ Like, she wasn’t even someone that I was like, ‘I want her to find love.'”

Even host Chris Harrison was worried about the decision.

“Whoever was skeptical after the After the Final Rose special and was scared: I was in that boat,” he recently told The Hollywood Reporter. “I was scared to death! I left that special thinking, ‘Oh, dear Lord, did we just make a huge mistake?'”

What did Brown say back to the haters?

Obviously, Brown was aware of what everyone was saying about her and was determined to show the world that the girl that they thought she was, was not actually her at all.

“I think the one thing that really did bother me was that I couldn’t articulate myself, and that people thought that I wouldn’t be able to handle this position, and I think I will prove everybody wrong, because one toast cannot defy who I am,” she told E! News. “From my very first day in the mansion, I am someone who can speak my mind and speak it clearly when needs be, when I feel comfortable.”

It only took her one night to show Harrison that she was up for the challenge.

“Thankfully, after night one — actually, about an hour into filming that first night — I realized: this was the woman,” Harrison told The Hollywood Reporter. “This was Hannah.”

How is Brown’s season going?

In addition to having to send one guy home for being there for the wrong reasons, Brown has also connected with a contestant who may end up being this season’s villain.

On the premiere episode, Luke Parker seemed like the perfect gentlemen, but the trailer for the rest of the season showed a whole different side of him.

“With Luke and I, we have a lot of chemistry, and I think that’s very evident from the first night, and you know, you will see how I react to different times during our relationship, and ultimately, there’s a reason why I gave him the first impression rose and I see something in him,” she told E! News.

The Bachelorette airs on Mondays on ABC at 8 p.m. ET.
