There are many reality shows that are hated, but The Bachelorette might be one of the most loved. Every season one woman who didn’t find love on The Bachelor gets her own shot at finding love on national TV. Last season it was JoJo Fletcher’s turn. She had her heart broken by Ben Higgins who told her he loved her only to eventually propose to someone else. So what else should you know about this Texas girl? Here are seven interesting facts.
1. She knew about Jordan Rodgers before the show
Other than JoJo, the big star of this season has been Jordan Rodgers, who used to be a quarterback for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Jordan is also Aaron Rodgers’s brother, who just so happens to be a huge NFL star. Although contestants are usually kept under wraps before the start of the show, somehow JoJo found out about him.
“A week before this whole thing started I think his name got leaked, and it was kind of all over the internet, so, you know, it’s like ‘Jordan Rodgers, brother of Aaron’ — so that’s what I knew going into it,” the reality star told ET.
The secret was out, but according to JoJo she didn’t know much about him. “Before I met him,” she continued. “I knew just that tidbit about him, but nothing else, and I don’t think it made a difference either way. I don’t follow football closely, so it’s not like it made a huge difference, but I definitely knew that about him going into it.”
2. She’s half Persian
The reality show has gotten some flack over the years for not being diverse, however a lot of people probably wouldn’t know about the current star’s background just from looking at her.
The bachelorette is from Texas so she’s definitely a country girl, but that’s not the only culture that plays a role in her life. “My mom is Persian, and my Dad was born and raised in Tennessee,” she wrote in her bio. “I’m proud of my mother’s background despite what social opinions are. It’s important for me to stand up to people stereotyping Iranians.”
3. She reportedly dumped her ex for the show
Is JoJo fame hungry? Or is her ex just out for revenge? Her ex, Chad Rookstool did an interview with In Touch Weekly claiming that the single lady might not be what she seems. The two were dating before she competed for Ben Higgins’s heart and Chad claims the two got back together in between shows.
“JoJo told me, ‘Chad, come on, you know it was TV,‘” he said. “I think she just got sucked up in the show rather than actually trying to have legit feelings.” Chad continued, “She tried to tell me she wasn’t saying goodbye forever — but I told her that I’m not going to sit around and wait for her [this time], and that was it.”
Chad’s interview came up on the show and JoJo vehemently denies anything happening with her ex. She also insists that she’s on the show for the right reasons.
4. She keeps in touch with Lauren B
JoJo might not have won Ben Higgins’s heart on The Bachelor, but the experience wasn’t a total loss. Not only did she get her own season but she also gained a new friend — with the girl that Higgins ended up choosing. Who knows, maybe we will see her at the wedding!
“Ben and I don’t communicate,” JoJo said on Good Morning America. “I kind of have my relationship with Lauren, which is my first priority.”
5. Her brother was on a reality show too
This family knows how to get on TV! JoJo’s stepbrother, Ben Patton was on Ready for Love as one of three bachelors trying to find love. He also made an appearance on The Bachelor when Ben Higgins came to JoJo’s hometown to meet her family. In the episode he questioned Ben quite a bit to figure out the bachelor’s intentions with his beloved sister.
6. She owns a real estate development company
JoJo was definitely not hurting for a paycheck before she got on reality TV. After graduating from Baylor University in 2011 she has done quite well for herself. She owns a development company called JHF Realty Development and reportedly has a net worth of $400,000, which is pretty good considering she’s still in her mid-20’s.
Some have questioned whether JoJo is still actively working with her company while she’s on the show. There is no mention of it on her social media accounts and a website for her development company hasn’t been found, but either way, she’ll probably be just fine after the show.
7. She is well connected in The Bachelor universe
The reality show franchise is much smaller than you’d think. The brunette knew several people who were on the show before she became a household name. According to The Inquisitr website, her brothers went to school with Jake Pavelka and one of her brothers and Jamie Otis, who was a contestant on Ben Flajnik’s season, had a short relationship. Chances are JoJo knew exactly what to expect going on the reality show.
