‘The Bachelorette’: What We Know About DeMario

From the very first episode, this season of The Bachelorette has been a dramatic one. After getting to know the bachelorette Rachel Lindsay, we are now getting to know the men who are competing for her love. There seem to be some good front-runners, but then there are also some villains.

DeMario Jackson fell into the latter category. He had the advantage of meeting Rachel on The Bachelor: After the Final Rose before many of the other men. He was certainly confident, but things took a turn when it came out that he might not exactly be single. He later became involved in an investigation that halted the filming of Bachelor in Paradise.

So who is the controversial reality TV star? Why did he come on the show? Here are 11 things we know about DeMario Jackson.

1. Bachelor in Paradise was suspended after alleged misconduct involving DeMario

The spinoff show Bachelor in Paradise stopped filming and the cast was sent home. According to reports, there was an investigation by Warner Bros. concerning misconduct that somehow involved DeMario and Corinne Olympios. This all happened after a producer filed a complaint.

According to TMZ, DeMario claimed that Corinne jumped onto his lap and started making out with him. They eventually made their way to the pool, where Corinne reportedly put her genitals on his face. However, this is something that has been contested by others and Warner Bros. found there wasn’t any misconduct.

Another report from TMZ said that Corinne claimed to have been blackout drunk when participating in sexual acts with DeMario. She reportedly blamed the producers for not putting a stop to it. Other cast members voiced concerns to the crew, saying that she wasn’t in a state to consent to sexual activity. The crew, however, claimed this isn’t true.

A few days later, an executive producer reportedly filed a complaint with Warner Bros. and said he or she was “uncomfortable” with what was filmed. Corinne’s own investigation has ended and she announced that she won’t be returning to Bachelor in Paradise. She also said she was happy with the changes the show has made after the scandal.

2. He reportedly ghosted his girlfriend to be on The Bachelorette

In the second episode, a woman named Lexie came on the show saying DeMario is her boyfriend and that after three days of not hearing from him, she saw him on After the Final Rose meeting Rachel. She said the two never broke up so Rachel was understandably mad.

“Up [until I saw him on TV] he had been my boyfriend of seven months. He literally still has the keys to my apartment,” Lexie explained to Rachel. At first, DeMario seemed like he was going to pretend he didn’t know who Lexie was, but eventually he started saying that the two broke up and that she’s “psycho.”

While Lexie claimed their relationship was serious and steady, he claimed they were “on-and-off.” DeMario also claimed that he broke up with her.

We found out that DeMario might not have been single at all, but in an interview with Glamour, he talked about why he’s still single.

I’m not about settling. For your whole entire life, your parents tell you about, growing up, never settle for less, never settle for this or that. Then you get to be 30, and they’re like, “When are you gonna settle down?” It goes against everything they taught you. I refuse to settle, to be average, to be basic. Plus, I’m at that age where I’m not just dating to date; I’m dating to get married.

4. DeMario wants to ‘make America smile again’

Every season of the show contestants are asked if they’re on the show for the right reasons. So it’s interesting that DeMario gave a unique reason answer to this question to Glamour.

I just want to have fun,” he said. “My main thing is, I’ve kind of piggy-backed on what Donald Trump said, ‘Make America Great Again.’ I want to make America smile again.”

5. He was approached by a producer and asked to come on the show

Some contestants have to audition, but some are discovered by producers, like DeMario. He was at Chipotle when he was approached.

“I was out with some friends, and [a producer] comes up and was like, ‘Hey, do you wanna be on this TV show?’ And she takes my picture,” he explained to Glamour.

6. He was a fan of the show before he was on it

It turns out that the show’s villain was a fan before going on the show. “Yeah, yeah, I watch it,” DeMario told Glamour. “My buddy Blake has Bachelor Mondays at his house. We do food and everything.”

He also knew who Rachel was before going on the show.

7. He liked Rachel for her personality on The Bachelor

It’s not uncommon for contestants to watch the previous season in order to get to know who they’re meeting. So why did DeMario want to meet Rachel? “You could tell who she was…her personality. She’s one of those fun people,” DeMario told Glamour.

He also noted that seeing how close she was with her family meant a lot to him. “I saw a few pictures with her mother and father, and that’s my number one thing. If you’re not close with your friends and family, it’s kinda weird to me. It’s like an ultra, ultra red flag.”

8. He has a sense of humor

DeMario’s first interaction with Rachel makes it even more shocking that he possibly had a girlfriend! When he met Rachel on After the Final Rose he had a ring and tickets to Las Vegas, so they could elope. That shows some level of commitment, but now it looks like it was an act.

10. He works as a recruiting consultant for Michael Page

Rachel tried to get a straight answer out of DeMario, but after not hearing what she needed, she made a final decision. “I’m really gonna need you to get the f**k out,” she told him. “I don’t like being embarrassed. I can’t even look at you right now.”

DeMario left, but not without appearing again to try and talk his way back into the house.
