A First Look at Robert Pattinson’s ‘The Batman’ Costume

The Caped Crusader is set to return, and this time Robert Pattinson will be stepping into his shoes. We’ve seen tons of people take on Bruce Wayne. From Michael Keaton to Christan Bale and, of course, more recently, the controversial casting of Ben Affleck. However, everyone seems to agree that seeing Harry Potter alum Robert Pattison take on Batman will be a sight to behold.

When news hit the internet that Pattison had been cast in the role in the spring of 2019 — fans immediately coined the term “Battinson,” and nothing has been the same. Since then, Zoë Kravitz has joined the film to play Selina Kyle/Catwoman, and we’ve gotten more casting deets, release date, and a trickle of plot details.

Now, director Matt Reeves has just released new footage of Pattinson as Batman and we’re thrilled.

This is what ‘The Batman’ is about

If you have a pulse, you probably have some inkling about Bruce Wayne’s backstory. However, Reeves is determined to deliver something a bit different.

“It’s very much a point of view-driven, noir Batman tale,” Reeves told The Hollywood Reporter. “It’s told very squarely on [Batman’s] shoulders, and I hope it’s going to be a story that will be thrilling but also emotional. It’s more Batman in his detective mode than we’ve seen in the films. The comics have a history of that. He’s supposed to be the world’s greatest detective, and that’s not necessarily been a part of what the movies have been.

The Batman will be released on June 25, 2021, the same year as Tom Holland’s third Spider-Man installment and Thor: Love & Thunder, with Natalie Portman taking on the titular role.

‘The Batman’ cast is full of A-list stars

In addition to Pattinson, Reeves has recruited a slew of A-listers for The Batman. Colin Farrell will star as Penguin, a role made famous by Danny Devito in the ’90s. Peter Sarsgaard has joined the cast in an unspecified role. Paul Dano is playing the Riddler — a role that Jonah Hill turned down. Also, Jeffrey Wright will be stepping into Commissioner Gordon’s shoes.

This will actually be Kravitz’s second time playing Catwoman. She voiced the role in the 2017 animated film The Lego Batman Movie. The High Fidelity actress was actually rejected for the role in The Dark Knight Rises because she was  too “urban.”

Andy Serkis and  John Turturro have also snagged starring roles in the film as Bruce Wayne’s butler Alfred and the villainous Carmine Falcone respectively.

A first look at Robert Pattinson as Batman

Though we are well over a year away from the film’s release date, Reeves and the cast are obviously superly excited about it. In fact, Reeves just shared an extremely intense screen test of Pattison in character as the Caped Crusader.

Pattison beat out Nicholas Hoult for the role and described stepping into the suit as transformative.  “It’s kind of insane,” he explained to Esquire U.K., “I was so far away from ever thinking it was a realistic prospect. I literally do not understand how I’ve got it, at all.”
