‘The Batman’: Robert Pattinson Spotted on Set As New Photos Seemingly Confirm the Timeline

Robert Pattinson and the rest of The Batman crew are finally back to work in Liverpool, England after lengthy delays. New photos have emerged that show Pattinson is back on set after he reportedly tested positive for COVID-19 in September.

Pattinson was not the only star spotted on set, Zoe Kravitz and an unrecognizable Colin Farrell were there as well. Plus, new leaked images from the sets being built in Chicago, seem to confirm exactly when the film takes place.

Warner Bros. has delayed the release of ‘The Batman’ again

It’s been more than a year since Warner Bros. revealed they’d cast Pattinson in Matt Reeves’ The Batman. But as E! News points out, fans are still no closer to seeing the movie in theaters. The pandemic not only delayed production for months, it also forced the studio to change its release date twice.

Earlier this month, the studio confirmed that they had pushed back the film’s debut once again. This time, Warner Bros. delayed the premiere another five months. It’s now set to hit theaters in March 2022.

While frustrated fans continue their long wait for The Batman, photos from the set show the project and its characters are starting to take shape. One pic showed Pattinson as Bruce Wayne wearing a dark suit and coat.

Another gave fans a glimpse of the nearly unrecognizable Colin Farrell as The Penguin. A third photo showed Zoe Kravitz dressed in all black as Selina Kyle, aka Catwoman.

Colin Farrell reveals how much longer they plan to film

Farrell is making his debut in the world of comic-book movies playing Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin, a role played by Danny Devito alongside Michael Keaton’s Batman. Heavy make-up and prosthesis are being used to make Farrell almost unrecognizable.

In fact, the Fantastic Beasts star is so unrecognizable that many fans thought it wasn’t even him in the first teaser trailer. Fans thought it was Spin City star Richard Kind instead.

Farrell better get used to the daily make-up grind, because according to the actor himself, the cast and crew will be filming into 2021.

“They had a little bump in the road a few weeks ago that you may or may not have read about. They are back shooting now. I start up again after a 7 month break on Monday. I shoot until February on and off,” Farrel confirmed to FM Today

Did new set photos reveal when ‘The Batman’ takes place?

As filming in the UK wraps, the whole production is gearing up to move to Chicago. While a lot of information about the film has not been confirmed, we do know that the film will cover a lot of the corruption in Gotham City. And, how Bruce Waynes’ family could be linked to the deep-rooted problems in the city.

Exactly when the film is set has also been a mystery. With the younger Pattinson replacing Ben Affleck as the Caped Crusader, many fans wondered if it might be some sort of prequel.

But in a new image from Brandon Davis, it looks like The Batman will have a modern setting. As the sets are being built in Chicago, many fans are sharing any info they can on social media. But the image from journalist Davis, seemingly confirms that the movie is set in 2019 or after.

This further distances the film from other DC Extended Universe films, so the chance of a crossover seems unlikely.

The Batman hits theaters on March 4, 2022.
