The ‘Below Deck’ Deck Crew Laughs About Not Giving a Friendship Bracelet to Rhylee Gerber
Did deckhand Rhylee Gerber from Below Deck really want to share a friendship bracelet with the “bru-crew?” Definitely not. But the latest Below Deck After Show further demonstrates the deep-seated resentment the deck team had for Gerber.
Deckhands Tanner Sterback and Brian de Saint Pern laughed about how de Saint Pern bought the deck team (plus chef Kevin Dobson) friendship bracelets at a market in Phuket, Thailand. Sterback and de Saint Pern thought it was funny that de Saint Pern bought the bracelets for the deck team but didn’t give one to Gerber.
“Rhylee was so upset she didn’t get one because they were for the deck crew,” Sterback giggled. “I’m like, ‘Guys I got your friendship bracelets,'” de Saint Pern gleefully recalls. Sterback says, “You gave it to [them] in front of her, it’s like, ‘Aw we got the deck crew friendship bracelets, oh Rhylee I didn’t get you one.'”
Gerber sees the move as one more way to exclude her
Chief stew Kate Chastain thought the whole presentation was extremely odd. “That’s not even a thing adult males do,” she observed. Gerber says, “We’re not friends, I don’t need a friendship bracelet. But yeah, does that make me feel more ostracised? Of course. It’s like ‘Hey everybody, I got these for the deck crew because we’re all friends! Oh, except for you.'”
She adds, “It is a type of bullying, Am I a bully, am I aggressive and I assertive? F**k yeah. But do I actively seek out to treat them the way they treat me? No.”
Earlier that day the crew wouldn’t make room for Gerber at the crew mess lunch table. She asks a deckhand to move over so she could sit down, but Sterback just smirks and doesn’t move. Eventually, he decides to sit at the counter, but Gerber retreats to eat alone in her room.
Is the bru-crew friendship real?
After this big declaration of friendship, stew Courtney Skippon doesn’t see this “brumance” continuing. “I just think that they are different people and they butt heads a little bit,” Skippon observes. “They’re obviously fighting over the same girl on multiple occasions.” A video flashback reminds viewers that Pienaar and de Saint Pern both vyed for Skippon’s attention.
“And that’s not something that friends do,” Skippon continues. “I think they have a false sense of intimacy and that’s why it took me longer to get to know people because the people I want to keep in my life I’m going to keep them and I’m going to get to know them well. But they just came in really hot and were like, ‘We’re all going to be best friends’ and now all of a sudden they’re best friends?”
So do the guys still wear their bracelets? Chef Kevin Dobson and Pienaar don’t wear it. “I chucked mine into the ocean,” Dobson shares. Pienaar says his bracelet just “disintegrated.” Pienaar shared that Dobson even made a whole ceremony where he disposed of the bracelet too.
