Here are our picks for the must-watch movies on Showtime this month.

Best movies on Showtime this month

Nearly 50 new movies are coming to Showtime in June. Here are some of the standouts.

Wildlife: You might have missed this low-key movie about the break-up of a family in 1960s Montana when it was in theaters last year, but it’s worth a watch. Carey Mulligan plays a wife and mother who feels trapped by her current life. Jake Gyllenhaal is her husband, who takes a job fighting forest fires after losing his job at a golf course, and Ex Oxenbould is their teenage son who is trying to understand why his parents’ marriage is falling apart. Streaming from June 1.

Mystic River: Clint Eastwood directed this 2003 mystery-thriller about a group of former friends all struggling with the fallout of a childhood tragedy whose lives intersect again when one of their daughters is murdered. Sean Penn won a Best Actor Oscar for his role as Jimmy Markum, the murdered girl’s father. Streaming from June 1.

Fast Times at Ridgemont High: This classic 1982 comedy-drama from Amy Heckerling explores the lives of a group of teens at a Southern California high school and set the template for pretty much every other teen movie that followed it. It stars Phoebe Cates, Judge Reinhold, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and of course, Sean Penn as stoner-surfer dude Spicoli.

What Keeps You Alive: This smart, stylish horror film from 2018 concerns a young couple who head to an isolated cabin to celebrate their one-year anniversary. There, Jules (Brittany Allen) begins to discover some unsettling things about her wife Jackie (Hannah Emily Anderson). Soon, things take a very dark turn as it’s revealed that Jackie isn’t who she seems to be. Streaming from June 5.

Nightcrawler: This darkly comic thriller follows Louis Bloom (Jake Gyllenhaal), an aimless young man in Los Angeles who remakes himself as a freelance cameraman, capturing footage of grisly car wrecks and shootings and selling it to local TV stations. Bloom proceeds to fully embrace the journalism maxim that “if it bleeds, it leads,” with disturbing results. Streaming from June 14.
