‘The Big Bang Theory’: 3 Surprises Still Coming in Season 9
The Big Bang Theory is about halfway through its current season, but there are plenty of big moments set to come before the show enters its midseason hiatus. From the appearance of a couple of a guest stars to the latest twist in Amy and Sheldon’s relationship, here’s what fans can look forward to in the remaining episodes of the first half of season 9.
1. Amy and Sheldon finally take their relationship to the next level
After years of dating, Shamy will be kicking things up a notch on the December 17 episode of this season. In November, it was revealed that the couple will leave their tame PDA behind and finally have sex, at last fulfilling Amy’s wildest wishes. The show’s producers made the announcement in lieu of risking a leak, saying, “After over five years of dating, we felt the time was right for Sheldon and Amy to finally consummate their relationship, and we’re so excited for the audience to see the journey over the next several episodes.”
News of the upcoming twist off an Internet frenzy, especially considering Sheldon and Amy have been broken up much of this season. Looks like a reconciliation is definitely in their future…and then some.
2. Favorite guest star Bob Newhart will return
Newhart is set to reprise his role as Dr. Arthur Jefferies aka Professor Proton, the former host of a children’s science show that both Sheldon and Leonard used to watch as kids. The comedic icon has proven to be a favorite recurring guest star among the show’s viewers, with his character developing an evolving relationship with Sheldon among over the course of just a handful of episodes.
The actor will make his fourth appearance on the show in the forthcoming December 17 episode. Per Variety, the character will pop up (for the second time) in Sheldon’s dreams, this time as a Jedi who dispenses advice and helps him make a very important decision. Considering that this is the same episode where Sheldon and Amy are supposed to get horizontal, we have a pretty good idea of what that decision might be…
3. Jane Kaczmarek will guest star
This season has seen several notable guest stars, including Elon Musk, Ada Nimoy, and the upcoming return of Newhart. As announced in early December, the show is now adding Kaczmarek to the list. Per CBS, the award-winning comedic actress will be playing Dr. Sarita Gallo, a psychiatrist who Leonard meets after Penny, a pharmaceutical rep, makes a sales call.
Not much else is known about her character, but she’s expected to make her debut on the show in a episode airing next year.
The Big Bang Theory is currently in its ninth season, but is already greenlit through Season 10. After airing on Mondays for the first half of the season, the show recently moved to a new time slot. It currently airs on Thursdays at 8 p.m. Eastern time on CBS.
