‘The Big Bang Theory’ Character Fans Say Is Most Underrated
While The Big Bang Theory features quite the talented ensemble, including Jim Parsons, Johnny Galecki, Kunal Nayyar, Simon Helberg, Mayim Bialik, and more, when you take to the internet – and browse through various social media posts and digital publications – you will find that a lot of attention is given to Jim Parsons and Kaley Cuoco.
With forums debating the intricacies involving Sheldon Cooper’s character to posts about Kaley Cuoco’s comedy-focused career outside of The Big Bang Theory, Penny and Sheldon seem to receive most of the media’s attention; however, the former suffers from a bit more criticism than the latter.
While most of the characters deserve just as much recognition, as they boast equally appealing character profiles and narrative arcs, one seems to stand out as the most underrated character on the show. And, according to fans, it is the one who, arguably, has grown the most from the start of the show.
Fans argue Howard Wolowitz has been on the most extensive and rewarding journey throughout ‘The Big Bang Theory’
Starting the show off as a creepy, sex-deprived geek, Howard Wolowitz was quite the unsettling character, often making jokes that only further augmented his complete detachment from contemporary society and misunderstanding regarding socially appropriate behaviors.
Wolowitz begins his journey living under his mother’s roof, searching for a way to reach maturity (though seemingly lacking the skills required) and slowly becomes a family man and loving partner to Bernadette.
Howard also confronts his mother’s death in season eight, which, if occurring earlier in the show, would have likely completed unraveled the character’s mental facilities; however, with Bernadette as his side, as well as his fellow physicist friends and Penny, he managed to cope in a healthy manner.
Fans argue that Leonard virtually remains the same from start to finish. Sheldon Cooper definitely makes a large transition as well, with help from Amy Farrah Fowler; however, his character is not shy on media coverage. One Reddit user even argues that Howard “metamorphosized” on The Big Bang Theory.
Simon Helberg’s future projects following his run as Howard Wolowitz on ‘The Big Bang Theory’
Simon Helberg has starred on The Big Bang Theory since the show’s beginning, and giving his character’s imprint on audiences and casting directors alike, let’s hope the actor doesn’t struggle to break away from the mold he’s now most recognized for.
While starring on The Big Bang Theory, Simon Helberg appeared in Florence Foster Jenkins alongside Meryl Streep in 2016. Helberg also voiced Bian Zao in Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness from 2011-2016 and starred in 2016’s Paint It Black as Jeremy. In 2018, Simon Helberg played Little Man in a short titled End of the Line.
While Simon Helberg has managed to star in a few roles outside of The Big Bang Theory since starting on the show, mostly over the last few years, according to IMDb, the actor has no roles on the horizon. However, he is currently serving as a producer on the TV documentary Elvis Goes There.
Let’s hope Simon Helberg pops up in another major network TV show or movie, as his portrayal of Howard was captivating and important to the show’s success, and fans would love to see the actor spread his wings in new directions.
