‘The Big Bang Theory’: Meet This Season’s Superhero Guest
The Big Bang Theory will mark its upcoming 200th episode in style. The fan-favorite CBS sitcom has recruited a big cast of guest stars to mark the occasion, including one notable name that will definitely resonate with comic book fans.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show has tapped former TV Batman, Adam West, to make the latest of the show’s many celebrity cameos in the landmark episode. West, known for playing a campy version of the Caped Crusader in ABC’s Batman from 1966 to 1969 and in the film version of the same series, will reportedly appear as himself, although specific details of his role have not yet been revealed.
While this will mark the actor’s first time ever appearing on the show, dedicated fans know that it certainly won’t be the first time his name has popped up in a Big Bang Theory episode. Sheldon (Jim Parsons) and the rest of the guys have actually been eager to meet West for quite some time now, as captured in the Season 3 installment, “The Precious Fragmentation.” In that episode, the boys actually follow a man they think is West to a garage sale. It turns out not to be him, and the gang finds something else of interest to them at the sale, but now it looks like their long-wished-for introduction will finally take place.
The Big Bang Theory is known for featuring a ton of geek-friendly guest stars, from various Star Wars and Star Trek actors to Stephen Hawking and Stan Lee. But of the many cameos in the show’s eight-and-a-half season history, West will reportedly be the first live-action superhero actor to ever make an appearance.
He’s not the only one lined up for the milestone episode though. According to THR, West will be joined by a slew of the show’s recurring guest stars. Some of the familiar faces that viewers can expect to see are John Bowie’s Barry Kripke, Christine Baranski’s Dr. Beverly Hofstadter, and Sara Gilbert’s Leslie Winkle (the latter of whom was a staple on the show early on, but hasn’t appeared in an episode since Season 3). Recurring star Wil Wheaton, who portrays himself and is usually an antagonist to Sheldon, will also show up for the episode.
Though the show is clearly going bigger than ever for its 200th episode, this season has actually already featured its fair share of guest stars. So far, Adam Nimoy and Stephen Merchant have both made an appearance in various episodes throughout the course of Season 9 and Bob Newhart also reprised his role as the late Professor Proton. In addition to West’s upcoming cameo, June Squibb is set to make an appearance as Sheldon’s beloved Meemaw in the February 4 episode.
While The Big Bang Theory is currently in its ninth season, the show has already been preemptively green-lit through Season 10. The special 200th episode — which will be only the latest of the Chuck Lorre-created series to reach that particular milestone — is scheduled to air on Thursday, February 25 at 8 p.m. on CBS.
