The Big Bang Theory is returning for Season 11 this fall and fans have a lot to look forward to, especially following that huge Season 10 cliffhanger. Though the hit CBS comedy won’t officially be back until late September, we already have some ideas about what could be next for Sheldon, Amy, Penny, Leonard, and the rest of the gang. Below, check out our predictions for The Big Bang Theory Season 11:
1. Amy will accept Sheldon’s proposal — but there will be hiccups
Season 10 ended with Sheldon traveling all the way to New Jersey in order to propose to Amy. In typical finale style, the episode concluded before audiences got to hear her answer or even see how she reacts. So how do we see it playing out?
Though showrunner Steven Molaro has hinted that Amy’s answer won’t necessarily be a definitive yes, it’s hard to see her turning Sheldon down. If we were betting, we’d guess that Amy will accept the proposal — but it won’t be entirely rosy.
At this point, Amy doesn’t know that Sheldon decided to pop the question after being kissed by Ramona (Riki Lindhome). But we have a feeling it won’t be long before she finds out and things get a little complicated.
2. The guys will find a new project to work on
Sheldon, Leonard, and Howard had their Air Force project abruptly taken from them at the end of Season 10, much to their chagrin. Following that setback, the trio will have to find a new professional pursuit, which we can likely expect to see in Season 11.
Molaro hinted at as much in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, saying, “It’s probably time for them to attack something new in the world of science.”
As for what that project will be, we’ll have to stay tuned to find out. Perhaps the trio will also find a way to involve Raj this time? Speaking of which …
3. Raj will finally turn things around
Raj has not had a good go at it lately. Though he finally decided to stop sponging off his parents’ money in Season 10, that resulted in him losing his apartment and moving in with Penny and Leonard. At the end of the season, he found a new setup, settling into a slightly more private place over Bert’s garage.
Perhaps this new living arrangement will signify a new chapter for Raj and he’ll be able to finally get out of this rut he’s been in for so long now … or so we hope.
4. Amy’s family might finally surface
So far, audiences have only seen one of Amy’s family members — her mom, Mrs. Fowler (played by Annie O’Donnell) who showed up in an episode via a video call. But weddings always draw family members out of the woodwork, so we have to meet more of Amy’s relatives if she accepts Sheldon’s proposal, right?
Molaro is staying tight-lipped about who he’d want to introduce, but he did acknowledge that the idea “does open a lot of fun possibilities.” At the very least, we hope to see her mom show up in person. Given her and Amy’s complex relationship, we can only imagine the havoc her appearance would cause.
5. Bert will be around more
Bert popped up several times in Season 10 and with Raj now moving into an apartment above his garage, you can bet viewers will see plenty more of him in Season 11. That’s a good thing, as it’s fun to see him pop up and disrupt the core friend group every now and then. Plus, Raj and Bert have all the makings of a hilariously awkward roommate pairing.
6. Penny will figure out her career issues
The end of Season 10 saw Penny and Leonard clashing over a job offer that the former received from her ex-boyfriend, Zach. Leonard felt uncomfortable with the thought of the two working together and though the offer was later rescinded, Penny made it clear she thought he was being selfish by asking her not to take the position.
That opportunity may have slipped through her fingers, but that doesn’t mean that Penny won’t find a new career path in future episodes. Now that she’s conquered the pharmaceutical sales world, it seems like a good time for Penny to move on and find a more fulfilling job.
7. Wedding plans may begin
Assuming that Amy accepts Sheldon’s proposal, as we predicted earlier (and that they get over the whole Ramona-kissing-Sheldon issue), there’s a good chance we could see the wedding planning kick off as early as next season. After all, remember how excited Amy was to be maid of honor? We can only guess how enthusiastic she’ll be now that she’s the bride!
The Big Bang Theory returns for Season 11 on Sept. 25 on CBS.
