‘The Big Bang Theory’: 3 Big Changes We’ll See in Season 10
The Big Bang Theory ended its ninth season with a cliffhanger finale, and now it’s time to look ahead to Season 10. The favorite CBS sitcom will return with new episodes this month and with many of the characters on the verge of meeting some major milestones, it looks like fans are in for quite a season. Here are three big changes audiences can expect to see on The Big Bang Theory Season 10.
1. Amy and Sheldon will finally move in together
After finally consummating their relationship last season, Amy (Mayim Bialik) and Sheldon (Jim Parsons) could finally take the plunge into cohabitation — well, sort of. Showrunner Steven Molaro recently confirmed that there will be a switch-up in the characters’ respective apartment situations this season. “We will, in the near future, start poking at the living arrangements and what makes sense and how that might work,” he told The Hollywood Reporter.
But don’t worry — the show isn’t breaking up Sheldon and Leonard (Johnny Galecki) for good yet. Molaro says that Amy and Sheldon living together will only be an experiment. “There are some big experiments in store for them and their relationship,” he told Entertainment Weekly. “A good way to trick Sheldon into doing things is by framing it in terms of science.”
Though living with Amy (even temporarily) will mark a big shift for Sheldon and the rest of the gang, the experiment won’t change the core dynamic of the show. As Molaro said, “At the end of the day, as long as those people are gathered in that living room to hang out and eat dinner, I think it will always be the show.”
2. A baby will join the group
As revealed last season, Bernadette (Melissa Rauch) and Howard (Simon Helberg) are currently expecting their first baby. Though we’ve already seen them begin to grapple with the idea of parenthood, it was previously unclear whether the couple would actually welcome the baby this season or whether the show would stretch out Bernadette’s pregnancy for a while. But it looks like it will be the former, according to Molaro.
“Yes,” he told The Hollywood Reporter when asked whether the baby would arrive this season. “I Googled Jackie Chan, who claimed to have been inside his pregnant mother for a year. So if it turns out we need Bernadette to be pregnant longer, I’m going to use the Jackie Chan defense and go with that for a while. But as it stands, sometime this year, something will happen.”
3. Two long-awaited family members will show up
After years of speculation (and as we guessed in our own Season 10 predictions), Penny’s mother and brother will finally make an appearance on The Big Bang Theory this season. The characters — who have been often mentioned in the past, but never actually introduced — will be played by Katey Sagal (Sons of Anarchy) and Jack McBrayer (30 Rock), respectively.
As Molaro confirmed at Comic-Con earlier this year, Sagal will play Susan, who is described as stressed out and neurotic from life with her troubled son. Meanwhile, McBrayer will play Randall, a cheerful former drug dealer and ex-con. Both characters will make their first appearance in the sitcom’s Season 10 premiere, which will feature Leonard and Penny moving forward with their plans for an intimate wedding ceremony.
The Big Bang Theory will return to CBS on Monday, September 19 at 8 p.m. EST.
