‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ Fans Can’t Believe How Long It Took Ridge to Care About Steffy
Most dads would notice their daughter had a drug problem before she pulled a knife on him, her ex-husband, and assorted extended family, but most dads aren’t Ridge Forrester (Thorsten Kaye). And to be fair to Ridge, Steffy’s (Joanne MacInnes Wheeler) addiction did come pretty much from out of the blue–like she was first prescribed painkillers a week ago and has already spiraled out of control.
But for fans of the long-running (since 1987!) soap The Bold and the Beautiful, the recent shenanigans in the Forrester and Logan clans are pretty much the norm. Like all TV productions, B&B shut down production for several months because of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. During those weeks, CBS showed reruns and favorite story arcs. New episodes have been airing for a few weeks now, and writers have packed a lot into them.
Steffy is addicted to painkillers
The motorcycle accident that landed Steffy in the hospital also got her hooked on painkillers. Although she was reluctant to take them at all, somehow within the week she was a raving addict. Creepy Vinny had been supplying her with pills after she returned home from the hospital. She had lied to Liam Ridge about taking the pills and suffered a full-blown breakdown, accusing everyone of abandoning her and not supporting her while she waved the knife around.
Ridge finally realized that Steffy really needed her dad and stepped in, taking her away from all the drama so she could get help.
Ridge was a distant dad with his own drama
That Ridge was a dialed-out dad shouldn’t come as a surprise–he’s been a busy fellow. His on-again, off-again marriages with Brooke Logan (Katherine Kelly Lang) have tallied up close to a dozen (some weren’t exactly legal). While Steffy was going through the trauma of losing her adopted daughter Phoebe to ex-husband Liam Forrester (Scott Clifton) and Hope Logan (Annika Noelle), Ridge was thinking of leaving Brooke and running away with Shauna (Denise Richards). Shauna wanted to marry Ridge and did so during a drunken spree in Vegas. Never one to let a little bigamy get in her way, Shauna engineered Ridge’s divorce from Brooke, much to Brooke’s surprise since she wanted a reconciliation.
Now what happens with Ridge’s marriage?
In a surprising plot twist that has fans really unhappy, Ridge hasn’t had his quickie wedding to Shauna annulled. After all, he was intoxicated and has no memory of the wedding, why not end it? The most likely reason is to create a little more drama in the never-ending saga of Ridge and Brooke. Soapdirt says that Shauna and Ridge are in for a crash and burn, but fans sort of like the couple.
Then there’s the fact that Shauna is played to a deliciously sultry and manipulative T by Denise Richards. Richards is the rare star — she was not only a Bond Girl, but she’s also a Real Housewife, too. It’s unlikely that the B&B team would let a catch like Richards drift away from lack of a storyline.
What about Steffy?
Steffy might seem like the ultimate poor little rich girl. She’s the heiress to the Forrester millions, but her parents’ divorces and her father’s self-absorption have turned her into a lonely woman who makes poor choices. Ridge is definitely getting the worst of it from fans on social media, but as long as he’s serious about being there for his daughter, they’ll probably rally around him. Until the next time he does something so perfectly self-centered that they’re reminded why he’s the character they love to hate.
