‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ Fans Hope Brooke Can Move on From Ridge

If there’s any character that gets The Bold and the Beautiful fans riled up, for better or worse, it’s Brooke. Once again, it is she who finds herself the center of attention thanks generally to the ongoing drama with Bill and Ridge.

This escalating drama comes at a time that could either be perilous or helpful, not just for The Bold and the Beautiful, but for all soaps as well. Like almost all scripted TV shows, The Bold and the Beautiful has halted production due to the pandemic, but the pandemic has also turned lemons into lemonade for the networks by giving soap operas its best ratings in years.

What has Brooke done this time?

Recently Brooke had been having a fling of sorts with Bill, her sister’s husband, but then tried to go back to Ridge. One fan said on Twitter, “The hypocrisy. She legit just made out with her sister’s man, and yet she wants to remind him of his ‘love’ for Katie. People wonder why folks can’t stand her. She’s legit the worst soap character. Ever.”

Now, as they almost always do in soaps, the tables have turned and Ridge is pursuing a relationship with Shauna, even going on a vacation. In the April 14 show, Quinn tells Brooke, “It’s not going to kill you to be alone.” Brooke responds by saying she was thinking of having Shauna arrested for trespassing on private property.

Meanwhile, Ridge and Shauna were living it up in Las Vegas, complete with a montage. Ridge had taken up with Shauna at least partly because of what had gone on with Brooke and Bill. Shauna all but said to Ridge, ‘I wish you knew how to quit Brooke.” When last seen, Ridge and Shauna were drunk in front of a wedding chapel. This would be one of those times when what happens in Vegas doesn’t stay in Vegas.

What are fans saying about Brooke now?

An April 9 official CBS Tweet about Brooke and Ridge had fans in a tizzy about Brooke all over again, although this time, they actually seemed to be defending her more often than not. One fan replied, “Why isn’t anybody bringing up how many times Ridge kissed Shauna? Why is that ok? I don’t care that Brooke & Bill were once an item either. Old news. Stupid to continuously bring up past story lines and play them out again. Ridge is wrong here, just like he was with Thomas.”

Another fan said, “The writers (are) making Brooke look desperate for Ridge. How many more times are we going to see this crumbling to pieces Bridge before it finally falls apart for good?? Brooke looks so much better with Bill.”

After a more recent official tweet about Brooke finding out where Ridge is, one fan replied, “I like to see Brooke find Ridge & Shauna in that Vegas crowd.” Later the show tweeted, “Ridge wakes up with a raging hangover and stunned to see Brooke.

Soap opera ratings are rising

The drama in the soaps seems to be the same as it ever was, but soap operas in general, not just The Bold and the Beautiful, have been both hurt by and benefited from the pandemic. On the one hand, the sister shows of Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful both shut down in mid-March and both shows had 4 to 6 weeks worth of episodes completed. Both soaps have also been running “classic” episodes (a ritzy word for reruns) to help lengthen the weeks they can stay on the air with new episodes, according to Deadline

The upshot, per Soapcentral.com, is that ratings for all soaps are on the upswing because millions have stayed at home. Bold found an audience of 3.66 million viewers — the show’s largest weekly number in two years. The Young and the Restless managed to attract 4.21 million viewers — the best numbers since the week ending April 26, 2019.
