Bob Barker is one of the most iconic names in the history of American television. After serving in the United States Navy, Barker began his career in the media as a radio host and was soon discovered by game show producer Ralph Edwards who gave Barker his first job in the growing world of broadcast television.

The legendary game show host’s first major television role was as the host of Truth or Consequences, which Barker hosted from 1956 to 1974. Barker is mainly remembered for his time as the host of The Price is Right, in which contestants compete to win prizes and vacations by correctly guessing the price of various items without going over, competing in a series of popular mini-games, as well as spinning a giant wheel.

Barker hosted the popular show from 1972-2007, one of the longest-running hosting duties in game show history. Not just a host, Barker has made a variety of celebrity cameos in such shows as The Bold of the Beautiful in 2014.

Known for its daily dramatics and high-profile celebrity appearances, The Bold and the Beautiful has been a prominent part of television for many years, if not as long as Barker has.

The show has had many special guests visit the fictionalized version of Los Angeles throughout the years including Betty White, Fabio, and another famous game show host, Drew Carey.

Carey has a deep connection to Barker, as he is the current host of The Price Is Right.  Barker’s cameo is remembered as one of the most iconic in the show’s long history. Tapping into his real-life beliefs and feelings towards animal rights and protections, Barker becomes enraged when Wyatt Spencer (Darin Brooks) says that animal activists are crazy and stupid for his beliefs.

The game show host attempts to educate Wyatt in the wonder of the animal kingdom, which falls on deaf ears. The argument escalates, and Barker punches the younger man in the face, and Wyatt collapses into a pile of mud.

Barker’s other guest roles

Most of the guest appearances that Barker has made have been as himself, and many times these cameos have Barker doing what he does best: hosting a game show. Beloved and known by millions, Barker and his friendly persona has been a perfect special guest star for a long list of television shows.

These shows include How I Met Your Mother, Family Guy, WWE Monday Night Raw, and even a voice appearance as “Bob Barnacle” on SpongeBob SquarePants. Besides television, Barker has made several film appearances.

One of Barker’s most famous film roles is in Adam Sandler‘s golf comedy Happy Gilmore. Barker’s role in the comedy film was the inspiration for his later appearance on The Bold and the Beautiful, as he also delivers a beating to Sandler’s character.

Barker, age 96, is still making infrequent media appearances, leaving hope for The Bold and the Beautiful fans to see the beloved guest star one more time.
