Oh had already made her way into the public eye before her time Grey’s Anatomy. In 2003, she starred in a small independent film called Sideways that became an unexpected hit. The movie got five Academy Award nominations, and it prepared her for the next level of fame that was to come.

In 2005, Oh began her time as Cristina Yang, and according to US Weekly, she was with the show for the next 10 seasons. She won both a Golden Globe and a Screen Actor’s Guild for her work on the series. But after a decade with Grey’s Anatomy, Oh decided to leave the show.

Even though the medical drama has gone on, recently completing its seventeenth season, fans still hold out hope that Oh will come back for another appearance. However, she’s made it clear that she’s moved on to other projects, and she’s happy with the change.

“But what I realize is, in a way that I’m really pleased and grateful for, is that the show is continuing on with its life, and that the show and the people who are still attached to the show are still attached to Cristina,” she explained. “It means a lot to me. … I am moving on and very happy and excited to be in another relationship.”

What came next for Sandra Oh

A few years after leaving Grey’s Anatomy, Sandra Oh found that next “relationship” — a TV drama called Killing EveAccording to Biography, the BBC America series stars Oh as Eve Polastri, a British intelligence agent. She’s determined to stop an assassin, called Villanelle, played by Jodie Comer.

Oh’s performance has been widely praised, and it earned her an Emmy nomination and another Golden Globe. Because of this, she has the distinction of being the first woman of Asian descent to have won multiple Golden Globes.

The series was so impressive that the second season was ordered even before the pilot episode ran. Fans are now waiting eagerly for the fourth season to start.

‘The Chair’ will be released soon

Sandra Oh isn’t one to rest in the midst of success, though. According to Salon, she’s also starring in a Netflix original series called The Chair. In the dark comedy, Oh plays Dr. Ji-Yoon Kim, an academic who is hired to run Pembroke University’s English Department after they’ve gone through a number of scandals.

Dr. Kim soon realizes how resistant the people she’s working with are to change. She is the first woman to work in her position, and one of very few minorities in the university, and many people on the faculty are not pleased to have her join them. Despite being a comedy, The Chair grapples with important issues of sexism and racism. Oh is also an executive producer on the project.

If anyone can take such heavy issues and turn them into a show that is funny, true, and compulsively watchable, it’s Oh. Fans will be waiting to binge when The Chair is released on August 20.
