‘The Challenge’: Cara Maria Sorbello Alluded She’s Making Her Life A Lot More ‘Private’ on Instagram
It’s not easy being in the public eye. And Cara Maria Sorbello has received a ton of attention thanks to her many years on MTV’s The Challenge. While she first started the show back on Fresh Meat II in 2010, she’s since proven to be a serious force to be reckoned with in terms of social gameplay and physical challenges.
While Sorbello gets a lot of attention, her boyfriend, Paulie Calafiore, does as well. And the two used to post a ton about each other on social media — though it appears times have changed. More recently, we’ve noticed a major shift in Sorbello’s online content. And she alluded in her Instagram Story that she’s now taking more measures to up her privacy.
Cara Maria Sorbello has been very public with her relationship
When Sorbello and Calafiore first got together on The Challenge, sparks flew between them. They met when filming Final Reckoning and pursued a romance after the season ended. But their love was immediately steeped in drama, as Calafiore had a girlfriend at home.
“He had FaceTimed me one night while he was there, saying, ‘I love you. I miss you. I can’t wait to get home to you. I bought you an engagement ring,'” Calafiore’s girlfriend, Danielle Maltby, told Us Weekly. And Sorbello spoke out as well.
“Every word that I see, every text message that I see, I still want to believe him. I’m still looking for a way to think that she’s lying but I know she’s not,” Sorbello added.
We know Sorbello and Calafiore eventually figured their relationship out, though. And they were posting plenty of photos of each other on their Instagrams to show off how happy they were in their relationship prior to War of the Worlds 2.
She’s now taking a step back from ‘The Challenge’
War of the Worlds 2 viewers know Calafiore and Sorbello had a disastrous loss at the end of the season. While the power couple made it to the finale with their team, Calafiore struggled from the beginning, and it was uncertain whether he would need to be medically evacuated. And their poor performance endlessly frustrated their team members.
It wasn’t just the finale that turned some Challenge competitors off to Calafiore and Sorbello, either. Several of their team members, like Zach Nichols and Nany González, told the cameras they didn’t like how Calafiore and Sorbello were running their team. And since the season’s end, Sorbello said she’s taking a break from the show, as it was too mentally taxing.
“You can’t put a price tag on happiness. For so long, I was, like, you know the money is so good. I can’t say no. I needed a little break for my own sanity and my own happiness, just finding what makes me me again and get my light back,” Us Weekly reports Sorbello said on the Watch With Us podcast.
She then added that the producers can “make someone else the bad guy this next season because I’m not going to be on it!”
Sorbello’s Instagram Story alludes she’s making her life more private
Since the end of War of the Worlds 2, both Sorbello and Calafiore have had major changes to their Instagram content. They no longer post photos and videos of their romance. Instead, they’re posting workout routines and healthy eating guides, making their social media presence much more business-oriented and less personal.
Sorbello still gives her Instagram followers insight into her personal life via her Stories, however. And she just alluded that this need for more privacy is very intentional.
“Date, in private. Love, in private, Be happy, in private,” the text post starts. “That way you can … Take your losses, in private, maintain, in private, rebuild yourself, in private.”
Sorbello then added, “Got a couple of these checked off for sure.”
It looks like we shouldn’t expect much content showing off her personal life going forward. While Sorbello’s Instagram followers frequently ask about her relationship with Calafiore, we’ll just have to trust the couple’s making the best decisions for themselves without us knowing everything they’re up to.
