‘The Challenge’: Cara Maria Sorbello’s Comment on Instagram Is Making Fans Think She And Paulie Calafiore Broke Up

We’ve been watching MTV’s The Challenge for years, and there are a few contestants who’ve been on the show season after season. And one of the most polarizing contestants who’s won countless Challenges is Cara Maria Sorbello.

Many may remember when Sorbello started the show and was relentlessly picked on by Johnny Devenanzio (Bananas) while she was dating fellow contestant Abram Boise. Since then, Sorbello has toughened up, worked on her gameplay, and proved to be a threat to win every season she’s a part of. And on Season 34 of The Challenge, she aimed to win with her relatively new partner, Paulie Calafiore.

Calafiore and Sorbello serve as the duo everyone loves to hate. While they appear to have a strong relationship, Sorbello left a comment on Instagram that’s making us wonder if they’re still together. Here’s what she wrote.

Cara Maria Sorbello and Paulie Calafiore broke up briefly in December 2018

Sorbello and Calafiore’s relationship has fallen under scrutiny since the very beginning. Calafiore was in a relationship with Danielle Maltby during The Challenge: Final Reckoning. According to Us Weekly, Maltby said Calafiore was keeping in touch and telling her how much he missed her. Meanwhile, he was also getting romantic with Sorbello.

“He had FaceTimed me one night while he was there, saying, ‘I love you. I miss you. I can’t wait to get home to you. I bought you an engagement ring,'” Maltby said. “I want to vomit because it makes me so sick to think that someone can sit there and spout out these professions of love to me and then hang up the phone and go and f*** someone else. I don’t blame Cara in this.”

Maltby and Calafiore ended their relationship, as we know. And Calafiore pursued relations with Sorbello. But it wasn’t smooth sailing for the new couple. The publication notes Calafiore was still talking to Maltby behind Sorbello’s back, resulting in a brief breakup.

“I was afraid to admit what was going on to Cara because I loved her and she was so free-spirited, I thought that she would just leave me. Does that make it right? No,” Calafiore admitted.

The couple faked a breakup in October 2019

Despite the rocky start to their relationship, Sorbello and Calafiore got over the hump and were going strong. But in October 2019, they faked a breakup.

Us Weekly reports on Oct. 7, Sorbello took to Instagram to state there was no cheating involved, and the two were happy being in an open relationship. And the following day, Calafiore took it a step further on his Instagram Stories.

“It’s been a long time coming but Cara and I have decided that it’s probably best that we go our separate ways and that we are friend,” he claimed on Oct. 8. “It’s not easy but sometimes people are better off as friends and that’s just how it is. We will be OK. We still have each other’s backs so it’s no big deal.”

The whole thing was a lie, however. On Oct. 9, the pair announced they were both in on the “social experiment” they created. “They want us to split. They want to be right so bad. So, we fed them a few days of acting to see where they would take it. Turns out, some took our bait, hook, line, and sinker,” Calafiore explained.

So, how are Sorbello and Calafiore doing today? On Nov. 13, Sorbello posted a few photos of her and Calafiore together on the beach — but since then, Calafiore has seemingly been absent from her Instagram. And on Sorbello’s photo of herself promoting Teami products posted on Dec. 16, a fan questioned if the couple was still together.

“Please tell me you and Paulie are still together,” a fan commented. “I’m a hopeless romantic and am serious rooting for you two!!!! Love to see your smile shining bright!”

To that, Sorbello answered, “im a hopeless romantic too,” with a heart emoji.

This certainly didn’t clear up the fan’s concerns. And Calafiore hasn’t posted any photos of Sorbello since November, either.

Could the couple be trolling their followers once again? We’re not sure — and for all fans know, they could be still happily together. Only time will tell.
