‘The Challenge’: Nany González Revealed She FaceTimes Paulie Calafiore ‘For Hours’

[Spoiler alert: Details of The Challenge: War of the Worlds 2 ahead.]

MTV’s The Challenge hit the small screen way back in the late ’90s, and it’s hard to believe there are some competitors who’ve been on the show for over a decade. On Season 34 of The Challenge: War of the Worlds 2, we saw the return of reigning champion Cara Maria Sorbello. And she was teamed up with her boyfriend, Paulie Calafiore, as well as many other infamous faces we’ve seen over the years.

While Sorbello and fellow contestant Nany González aren’t the best of friends, they started on the same team during Season 34. But the two have since exchanged a serious war of words. And González even mentioned she talks to Calafiore regularly despite despising Sorbello. Here’s what happened.

Paulie Calafiore and Cara Maria Sorbello asserted dominance in The Challenge: War of the Worlds 2

The Challenge is a game of wits, physical strength, endurance, and social prowess. And during War of the Worlds 2, it was Calafiore and Sorbello who led the pack.

The season was divided into two teams: the Americans versus the British. And Calafiore and Sorbello played a strong enough social game on the American side that they never had to see any eliminations. Instead, they sailed straight to the final with many folks in their alliance by their side.

In the end, they couldn’t get it done, however. Calafiore’s endurance failed him during the grueling finale. And the couple was criticized by many on the U.S. team for weakening their squad by tossing some of their best players who weren’t in their alliance into eliminations. This resulted in a win for the (much smaller) British team, and a devastating loss for Calafiore and Sorbello, who wished to have their first Challenge win as a couple.

Sorbello and Calafiore had a strong alliance on the U.S. side during War of the Worlds 2, but González wasn’t a part of it. Instead, she made it known she wasn’t a fan of who Sorbello’s become over the years.

González and Sorbello have played many seasons of The Challenge together before, and it seems in more recent times, González thinks Sorbello’s changed completely. When speaking to PeopleTV’s Reality Check, González noted, “I don’t like who she is today. I don’t think she’s a good person, and that’s outside of the game and in the game. … The Cara Maria that I saw last season is not the Cara Maria that I want to have in my life.”

Johnny “Bananas” Devenanzio also chimed in. He explained that he and Sorbello became good friends at one point, but everything is different now. “Our relationships changed and there really is a darkness that’s come over her recently that I think has changed our relationship,” he told Reality Check.

González revealed she’s friendly with Calafiore

While González and Sorbello aren’t friends, it looks like González has a fine relationship with Calafiore. People notes González and Calafiore had their differences on the show, and a brief fight between them was brought up at The Challenge reunion. Sorbello went on to attack González verbally for allegedly taking a swing at Calafiore on the show, but González defended herself. And Calafiore eventually tried to tame the tension by explaining he and González are cool with each other now.

“Nany, at least I have respect …,” Calafiore attempts to interject during the argument between González and Sorbello.

To that, González agreed back, “At least you and I are able to communicate.”

Sorbello then went on to accuse González of trying to steal Calafiore away from her. “I already know what you do, calling him drunk, trying to get with him. Are you kidding me Nany?” Sorbello accused.

González then revealed she does, in fact, talk to Calafiore regularly outside of the show. “Me and Paulie FaceTime for hours because we’re cool, Cara, we’re cool. We can get past that s***,” she said.

Sorbello continued to accuse González of hitting on Calafiore. We’re not sure if it’s true or if Sorbello and González just can’t stand each other. Perhaps the truth will be revealed next season.
