‘The Challenge’: Wes Bergmann Is Making Paulie Calafiore Feel Extra Bad About His Season 34 Loss

[Spoiler alert: Spoilers ahead for Season 34, War of the Worlds 2, of MTV’s The Challenge.]

It’s hard to believe MTV’s The Challenge has been on television for over two decades. We’ve watched stars from various MTV shows like Road Rules, The Real World, and Are You The One? (just to name a few) duke it out in a battle of physical and mental strengths for a serious check. And while Paulie Calafiore is a newcomer to the game, he’s already making a name for himself as a serious Challenge threat.

Calafiore is dating long-time Challenge veteran and frequent winner Cara Maria Sorbello. And the couple played together during Season 34, War of the Worlds 2. While their team looked slated to win, the U.S. team ultimately lost. And now, infamous veteran Wes Bergmann is trolling Calafiore and making him feel even worse over the loss.

The Challenge is a tough game, and every season, new alliances are formed, new hearts break, and old friendships are kept strong or severed completely. During War of the Worlds 2, it was the Americans versus the British team — and the Americans seemed to dominate. Not only was the U.S. team stacked with competitors who were great at both physical and mental challenges, but the team was led by Calafiore and Sorbello.

Calafiore and Sorbello have been dating since the last season of The Challenge. While they’ve had their ups and downs, Sorbello wanted to win this season with her man so he could have his first win, too. And the two made it to the finals along with key allies “Ninja” Natalie Duran, Ashley Mitchell, and Kam Williams.

“I can honestly say I don’t regret anything this season,” Calafiore told ET Canada. “I’m gonna play the game the way that it’s meant to be played. … This season, working with all the people that I worked with, I wanted them to trust me, not just for this season, but for future seasons.”

While Calafiore, Sorbello, and their crew made it to the end, they couldn’t get it done. The Brits took home the win, and Calafiore’s body started failing him during the first leg of the final.

“I miscalculated in terms of my preparation,” Calafiore told PeopleTV. He then went on to explain that he thought there’d be a lot more running and swimming during the final, though the majority of the physical portion was carrying a lot of weight. “You don’t know what a final’s gonna be so you don’t know if it’s better to go with a bigger team, smaller team …,” he added.

Calafiore also mentioned that the heat during the final was absolutely brutal. “It wasn’t the fact that I was gassing out, it was the fact that I had no vision, my kidneys were shutting down, and at that point my brain switched from finishing to life or death situation.”

‘Challenge’ veteran Wes Bergmann is trolling Calafiore

Calafiore was in serious physical trouble during the final, but that hasn’t stopped fellow contestant Wes Bergmann from busting on him. Calafiore posted a video to his Instagram Story of Bergmann claiming he was giving Calafiore a shoutout via Cameo. “Woke up to @westonbergmann trolling me,” Calafiore captioned the Story.

In the Cameo, Bergmann acted like he didn’t know Calafiore and was sending his fellow Challenge competitor a celebrity shoutout as requested by Sorbello.

“Apparently the request says something along the lines of I should wish you luck winning your first championship or something?” Bergmann said to the camera. “I don’t know really what that means. I really appreciate it, I love interacting with my fans in this capacity and I hope one day you get that Challenge championship. … One of these days, you might get your shot. … Anyway, Cara sounds like a great woman, she’s very nice to have organized this for you. Thank you very much for using the Cameo app and I hope that one day my special little friend Paulie gets a chance to go to The Challenge.

We know Bergmann loves to troll his competition, so we’re glad Calafiore seems to laugh off this ego-bruising message. We can’t wait to see Calafiore and Bergmann duke it out on The Challenge in the future!
