‘The Crown’: How Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Are Working Hard to Be Left Out of the Show
As The Crown Season 4 just became available on Netflix, people are rehashing all of the old drama of the royal family. Season 4 begins to cover the drama surrounding Charles, Prince of Wales’ marriage to Diana, Princess of Wales. With the old drama coming back up, it’s only natural that fans are wondering how the royals’ current situation and Prince Harry leaving the royal family will play out onscreen. But according to several sources, that may never happen.
What happened in Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s marriage?
Some might say that Charles and Diana’s marriage was doomed from the start. Charles wanted to marry his current wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, first but his family didn’t believe she was a good fit for the monarchy. When he went away to serve in the British navy, Camilla got engaged and by the time he returned she was married.
Though Charles married Diana, he was not in love with her. He even told her so the night before their wedding.
“One of the most shocking things that Diana told me was that the night before the wedding Charles told her that he didn’t love her,” Diana’s astrologer, Penny Thornton said in ITV’s new documentary The Diana Interview: Revenge of a Princess. “I think Charles didn’t want to go into the wedding on a false premise. He wanted to square it with her and it was devastating for Diana.”
Season 4 of The Crown covers the breakdown of Charles and Diana’s marriage before her untimely death.
Did Prince Harry’s deal with Netflix stop ‘The Crown’?
With the story of his mother and father’s relationship, The Crown is coming dangerously close to catching up to where the royals are currently. Prince Harry, who stepped away from his role as a working royal earlier this year, reportedly does not want his or his wife, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex’s, story to be told on the show.
According to The Mirror, Harry and Meghan’s recently inked Netflix deal might have helped them ensure that they never seem themselves portrayed as adults on The Crown.
Royal Biographer Angela Levin who wrote Harry: Conversations with the Prince previously told The Mirror that the royal family was “all absolutely watching everything” on The Crown, but that Harry was planning to “insist it stops before it reaches [him.]”
Levin recently revealed that she thinks that Harry’s deal with Netflix will actually make things worse for him.
“I think the way that he has left the Royal Family, the way he did it, and he’s changed. He’s almost unrecognizable from Prince Harry I spent a lot of time with. But I think, you know, Meghan is desperate to earn lots of money and Netflix offered them something. I think they’re being naive as they have been about lots of things in that they don’t realize that a big company like Netflix is going to want its pint of blood. They’re going to delve in and get a lot of information that will absolutely decry the royal family.”
The Crown is only set to film for 6 seasons so it could end before Meghan even makes it on the scene.
